The Ministry of Health encourages private hospitals to expand the number of beds and develop specialized medical care.

Attending the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan congratulated Vinmec Smart City Hospital, with its role in improving the quality of healthcare for people in the western region of Hanoi and neighboring areas.

The Deputy Minister of Health affirmed that the Party and State's policy has oriented the development of the health sector without distinguishing between public and private sectors. The combination of public and private health care not only contributes to reducing the burden on the public health system but also opens up diverse and high-quality health care options for the people.

The 2021-2030 healthcare network planning, with a vision to 2050, approved by the Government, encourages the development of specialized and high-tech private hospitals and a number of private hospitals at international standards; encourages public-private partnerships, private investment, and the provision of healthcare services to meet people's needs.

"In particular, the plan has set a target to expand the number of beds in private hospitals, striving for the rate of private beds to account for at least 10% by 2025, 15% by 2030 and 25% by 2050," said Professor Thuan.

Support domestic and foreign investors to establish hospitals and clinics

According to Professor Thuan, in addition to the public health care system, the country currently has 384 private hospitals, accounting for 24% of the total number of hospitals. However, the number of beds in private hospitals only accounts for 5.8%. In Hanoi alone, these figures are slightly higher with 44 private hospitals accounting for 29% and nearly 3,000 beds accounting for 6.5%.

"The Vietnamese Ministry of Health always supports and creates favorable conditions for domestic and foreign investors to establish private hospitals and clinics in Vietnam in the spirit of equality, fair competition, and in accordance with Vietnamese law," Deputy Minister Thuan affirmed.

Professor Thuan also suggested that Vinmec healthcare system actively cooperate and exchange experiences and knowledge in medical examination and treatment with domestic and foreign medical facilities, develop specialized techniques, apply modern management methods, and soon approach international quality standards.

At the same time, actively participate in supporting humanitarian medical examination and treatment for people in remote, isolated and extremely disadvantaged areas so that people have the opportunity to access quality medical examination and treatment services with modern and advanced techniques.

Vinmec Smart City is the 8th international standard general hospital in the Vinmec healthcare system with more than 13 years of operation, serving a minimum capacity of 70,000 visits/year, including 14 specialties.
