This afternoon, October 10, the Central ENT Hospital (Ministry of Health) held a ceremony to celebrate its 55th anniversary (1969 - 2024). At the ceremony, Director of the Central ENT Hospital Pham Tuan Canh shared about its achievements and future development orientation, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and cooperation in the health sector.
On July 14, 1969, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong signed Decision No. 111/CP, officially establishing the Institute of Otolaryngology, the predecessor of today's Central Otolaryngology Hospital. Professor Tran Huu Tuoc, who laid the foundation for the Vietnamese Otolaryngology industry, was the first director.
After 55 years of development, with an initial scale of only 10 beds and a staff of nearly 30 people, the Central ENT Hospital has now become the country's final-line hospital specializing in ENT and head and neck surgery, with a scale of 320 beds and over 400 staff.
At the ceremony to honor professors, doctors, and nurses of all generations who laid the foundation for the development of the Vietnamese ENT industry and built the hospital from the very beginning, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan also highly appreciated the collective achievements of the Central ENT Hospital.
"The hospital's professional work is focused on, many new and advanced techniques are deployed and applied effectively. The number of patients coming for examination and treatment is constantly increasing. In the period 2019 - 2024, there were over 1 million patients coming for examination and treatment at the hospital, with a total of nearly 65,000 surgeries. The above figures demonstrate the continuous efforts of the staff of the Central ENT Hospital", Minister Dao Hong Lan emphasized.
On behalf of the hospital's medical staff, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Tuan Canh, Director of the Central ENT Hospital, shared: "Over the years, millions of patients have been examined and treated here. Each difficult case to cure is the result of the dedication of the entire team of doctors and medical staff in each department. The happiness of patients and their families is the most valuable source of encouragement for the hospital's staff to strive together."
Mr. Canh also said that in the coming time, the Central ENT Hospital will carry out a number of key goals such as: building a team of high-quality human resources with deep professional knowledge, good medical ethics, and good medical skills; actively applying science and technology, seeking international partners to develop each specialty in depth; improving service quality: upgrading facilities, continuously training communication skills for medical staff, meeting the needs and creating satisfaction for patients; resolutely implementing the digital transformation project: information technology software is comprehensively applied in professional and management activities.
Regarding medical examination and treatment, the Central ENT Hospital always puts the quality of medical services first, always strives to improve the process, regulate medical examination and treatment activities, flexibly arrange early examination rooms, make online appointments, reduce waiting time, and meet the medical examination and treatment needs of the people. The total number of medical examinations in 5 years (2019 - 2024) reached over 1 million; more than 150,000 outpatient visits; nearly 70,000 inpatient treatments with more than 55,000 surgeries.
In particular, over the past 5 years, the hospital has always researched, developed, updated new and specialized techniques and applied advanced techniques used for the first time in Vietnam in specialized fields.
Regarding oncology, the hospital has equipped many machines for early cancer diagnosis, synchronously implementing cancer treatment methods including surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and palliative treatment; receiving and treating all cancers in the ear, nose and throat, even in the late stages when previously patients had to be transferred to the oncology department.
