Quang Nam General Hospital performed the first surgery to replace the abdominal aorta below the kidney and iliac artery

(QNO) - On the afternoon of April 4, the Department of Urology - Thoracic Vascular Surgery, Quang Nam General Hospital, with professional support from Cho Ray Hospital (according to Project 1816), performed the first surgery to replace the abdominal aorta below the kidney and the iliac artery.

Dr. Phan Quoc Hung - Deputy Director of Cardiovascular Center, Deputy Head of Vascular Surgery Department, Cho Ray Hospital directly transferred the technique.

The first patient to undergo surgery to replace the abdominal aorta below the kidney and the iliac artery at Quang Nam General Hospital was Ms. D.TTX (73 years old, Tam Thang commune, Tam Ky city). Through conservative treatment of lumbar spine pain after trauma, an abdominal aortic aneurysm was accidentally discovered.

Diagnostic imaging showed that the patient had an abdominal aortic aneurysm below the renal artery, with a maximum transverse diameter of 74 mm and a length of 110 mm; comorbidities included hypertension, old cerebral infarction, mild weakness in the right half of the body; atrophied right kidney; and lumbar disc herniation treated conservatively.

With the professional support of cardiovascular and vascular surgery specialists from Cho Ray Hospital, the patient underwent surgery to replace the abdominal aorta below the kidney and the iliac artery. After surgery, the patient continued to receive intensive treatment at Quang Nam General Hospital.
