After deploying to the area receiving the handover from Level 2 Field Hospital No. 4, Vietnam's Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 carried out a volunteer trip to give gifts to children and local people at Rubkona Nature Reserve in Bentiu (South Sudan).
During this working trip, in addition to visiting and presenting gifts to the local authorities and tribal leaders in Rubkona, Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 presented 30 gifts to 30 disadvantaged households there. Many children were present to receive the lovely little gifts that the Vietnamese blue beret soldiers dressed as funny clowns made from balloons presented.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ha Ngoc, Director of the Hospital, shared: “In a difficult place like Bentiu, having toys for children is impossible. We want to bring joy to disadvantaged children in this place through small but meaningful actions. The children were very excited and happy because this was the first time they received such a gift.”
The Director of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 affirmed that, following the previous units, the unit hopes that together with professional health care work in the area, the joint activities for the community will contribute to introducing a good image of the country and people of Vietnam, spreading the image of the green beret soldiers with a compassionate heart.
The Civil-Military Activities (CIMIC) of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 received support and positive evaluation from the authorities of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan and international colleagues. According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ha Ngoc, they expressed their desire to cooperate and accompany the Vietnamese unit in meaningful activities like this. The first volunteer activity in the area of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 had the participation and companionship of colleagues from the Mongolian and Thai units.
Through the coordination of CIMIC activities, the image of the UN blue beret soldiers in the area has become familiar and close to the local people. The activity is even more meaningful when it is carried out on World Humanitarian Day (August 19).
