Entering the long, hot days of the dry season, in recent days in Long An province in general and Ben Luc district in particular, there have been many consecutive fires, including fires caused by people's carelessness. Before the dry season continues, fire prevention and control work, especially at establishments with high risk of fire and explosion such as motels and material purchasing establishments, needs to be further improved.

Ben Luc District Police regularly inspect and remind lodging establishments to be vigilant and take precautions against fires and explosions.

Normally, a rented room has an area of about 15-30m2, each room will have an average of 1 motorbike, 1 gas stove, and some electronic devices. Most mini gas cylinders are reused many times by tenants to save costs. Thus, the number of flammable and explosive items in the entire rented house is very high. What is more worrying is that the electrical system in most rented houses today is temporarily connected, not up to standard, etc.

To be proactive in fire prevention and fighting at the boarding house, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Doi, owner of Ut Doi boarding house, Ward 8, Ben Luc town said: “To ensure fire safety at the boarding house, since the construction, the family has designed emergency exits as well as complied with all fire safety regulations. Each boarding house is equipped with 2 or more fire extinguishers, surveillance cameras, etc. In particular, the family also regularly inspects and reminds tenants to ensure fire safety, especially the use of electricity and gas for cooking...”.

Ben Luc Electricity also regularly sends staff to coordinate to inspect and remind lodging businesses.

Ben Luc District Police have issued many recommendations to rental housing areas in the area. Accordingly, it is recommended that landlords and rental houses must strictly comply with the provisions of the law on fire prevention and fighting; regularly conduct self-inspections and raise awareness of tenants about fire prevention and fighting and rescue work. Each individual and household in rental housing areas and houses for living must proactively prepare escape plans for themselves and their family members; prepare ladders, rope ladders and common demolition tools such as hammers, pliers, crowbars, etc. Do not arrange goods or objects to block or obstruct escape routes; flammable items, goods and materials must be placed at least 0.5m away from sources of fire and heat.

In addition, the District Police require people to voluntarily install protective devices (fuses, relays, automation, etc.), regularly check the electrical system and each electrical device that consumes large amounts of electricity. Turn off electrical devices when not needed, when leaving the house or office, and strictly manage fire and heat sources when cooking and burning incense. Do not store gasoline, gas, flammable and explosive gases and flammable liquids in the house. Install early warning devices for fires, prepare on-site fire fighting equipment such as water, blankets, portable fire extinguishers, etc. to extinguish fires as soon as they arise.

Wear a gas mask and a soft towel to prevent smoke inhalation. When a fire breaks out, stay calm, think carefully, and raise the alarm for everyone to quickly move out; absolutely do not hide in rooms, bathrooms, etc.; organize fire fighting, rescue people and property, and immediately call the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police force at 114.
