SCMP reported on April 20 that a 9-year-old girl living in Tangshan, Hebei province, fell from a room on the 25th floor of an apartment building.

The accident happened on March 27, when the baby's mother was at work and received a call from her husband informing her that her daughter was "missing".

"The girl was doing homework in her room, but when her father called for dinner, she didn't answer. Her father looked down from the window three times but couldn't see her, only a pair of slippers," said Ms. Tham, the child's mother.

The building manager later called to say that the girl was lying on the 7th floor mezzanine because a resident on that floor heard the noise and informed the management.

After falling, the little girl tried to walk a few steps, so her father couldn't see her from above.

"The baby was able to walk a few steps but then lay down because of the pain. When we found him, he was bleeding profusely around his mouth and ears, his eyes were swollen, but he was still conscious," Ms. Tham described.

"We were so scared and heartbroken. The first thing he said was: Mom, save me."

According to SCMP , because it was too hot, the girl went to open the window. Unfortunately, the window structure was loose, causing the girl to fall and fall out.

Hospitals in Tangshan City assessed the girl as seriously injured and advised her family to immediately transfer her to a higher-level hospital. Health officials rushed her to Beijing Children's Hospital, 200 kilometers away, overnight. The convoy was escorted by traffic police, who cleared the way.

At the capital’s leading medical facility, the girl was diagnosed with broken arms, eye sockets and thoracic vertebrae, lung damage, but fortunately no brain damage. She underwent several surgeries, was discharged 10 days later and will return for a check-up at the end of April.

"My mother-in-law fainted when she heard that her child had fallen. My husband and I were only relieved when her condition gradually stabilized. Everyone considered it a miracle, believing that God had protected her," the mother shared.
