On the morning of March 6, Dr. Nguyen Minh Tien - Deputy Director of the City Children's Hospital (HCMC) - said that the hospital had just received a child patient LTT (23 months old, female) who suffered severe burns due to a mini gas stove exploding after a wedding party.
Medical history showed that while the child was playing at the foot of the stairs - where the mini gas stoves were after the wedding party - one of the stoves suddenly exploded.
The explosion caused burns to the baby's face, chest, abdomen, arms and legs. The baby was taken to the local hospital for first aid by his family, then transferred to the City Children's Hospital.
Here, the baby showed signs of shock with weak pulse, cool extremities, difficult to measure blood pressure, and a burn area of about 44% (degree 2).
Doctors administered anti-shock fluids, provided respiratory support, administered pain medication, cared for the child's burn wounds, and then transferred him to the surgical intensive care unit for further treatment.
The baby received burn wound care combined with proper nutrition. After more than 2 weeks of treatment, the baby's burn wound condition improved and gradually healed.
Through this case, Dr. Minh Tien reminds parents to be careful in their work and daily activities at home. Any behavior, movement, or action of adults can pose a risk of injury to young children.
To keep the home safe for children, parents should not place hot or boiling objects, hot irons, new exhaust pipes, chemical bottles, rat and insect poisons, medication, electrical outlets, etc. within reach of children. Do not place buckets of water in the bathroom because children can fall into them.
Avoid letting children approach dangerous places with flammable tools and materials. "When a child is burned by boiling water or fire, take the child to a safe place, pour water on the wound to reduce the burn and pain. Then quickly take the child to the hospital for further emergency care," Dr. Tien instructed on first aid for children with burns.
