On July 21st, information from Bai Chay Hospital ( Quang Ninh ) indicated that the hospital is treating a 3-year-old child, BVH, residing in Ky Thuong commune, Ha Long city, who was admitted with a wound on his right hand.
X-ray images showed that the child's hand injury was very severe.
According to information from the child's family, at 6 PM on July 16th, while playing at home, H. was unfortunately cut on the second and third fingers of his right hand by a vegetable cutting machine. After the accident, the child bled profusely from his right hand and was given first aid by his family using a rolled-up cloth before being taken to the hospital.
Upon admission to the hospital, doctors found a crushed wound exposing the cartilage and bone, with the second and third phalanges of the second and third fingers of the right hand missing; and a wound on the sixth finger of the right hand. Meanwhile, X-ray results showed that the child had lost bone from the second and third phalanges of the second and third fingers of the right hand.
The child was diagnosed by doctors with a crush injury resulting in the loss of the second and third phalanges of the right hand, and was scheduled for surgery to create a stump for the second phalange and fix the extensor tendons of the third and fourth phalanges.
After nearly an hour, the doctors cleaned the wound, performed surgery to create a stump on the second finger, and fixed the extensor tendons of the third and fourth fingers. Currently, the child's health is stable.
Following this unfortunate accident, doctors at Bai Chay Hospital advise people using vegetable slicers and cutting machines to be cautious during use, especially keeping them out of reach of children and storing them carefully to prevent children from playing with them, thus avoiding similar tragic consequences.
