GĐXH - The child patient is a rare case of severe disc herniation at a very young age. If not treated promptly, it can lead to paralysis.
According to information from the Post Office Hospital, recently doctors received and treated a patient named Dinh Quang H (13 years old in Son La). The patient was admitted to the hospital with severe back pain, numbness in both legs, unable to move or exercise on his own, and dependent on relatives for all daily activities.
Before that, the patient helped his parents collect rice into 40-50 kg sacks, then carried the sacks of rice onto the cart to store. A few days later, he had back pain and severe numbness in his left leg. The sudden pain in his back increased. The patient took painkillers and treated himself at home but did not see any improvement, so his family took him to a nearby hospital for examination.
According to the diagnosis of the district hospital doctor, the patient was a rare case of a severe herniated disc, which could lead to paralysis if not treated promptly. In that situation, the family decided to transfer the child to the Post Office Hospital for convenient examination and treatment.
Doctor Dam Quang Trung - Pain Treatment Unit of General Surgery Department said: After assessing the patient's level of back stiffness to determine the cause of pain as well as performing nerve function tests to assess the patient's level of relaxation, muscle tone, ability to walk and ability to feel stimulation.
At the same time, based on the image of the damaged area on X-ray and MRI of the lumbar spine, the doctor diagnosed the patient with acute back pain due to lumbar disc herniation . The child only needed to treat lumbar spine pain with high frequency waves without surgery.
After only about 1 hour of minor surgery, patient D.QH was able to sit up, his back no longer hurt, his legs were less numb and he could walk well.
Doctors say that pain treatment with high frequency waves not only helps patients relieve pain and recover very quickly, but also shortens hospital stays and significantly saves treatment costs.

According to doctors, lumbar disc herniation is a condition in which the disc between the vertebrae is displaced from its normal position, causing pressure on the surrounding nerves, compressing the nerves, leading to pain, numbness and even making the patient unable to move. The disease often occurs in people aged 30-60 years old.
The cause of herniated disc is mostly due to aging, the disc and spine lose water, degenerate and become vulnerable.
Another cause is overwork, overexertion, or incorrect posture, leading to damage to the discs and spine. The case of patient Dinh Quang H. is quite rare and uncommon because he was young and contracted the disease due to carrying something too heavy.
The rate of people with herniated discs is very high with different levels. In severe cases, if not treated properly, the disease will cause dangerous complications.
