During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh instructed the Border Guard Force, "You must rely on the people, strive to unite with and help the people." Imbued with his teachings , the Border Guard Force of Quang Ninh province has implemented many practical models and initiatives to assist the people in border and island areas , demonstrating the responsibility of soldiers in green uniforms and contributing to building an increasingly prosperous border region.
"Staying at sea with fishermen" is a model of learning from and following President Ho Chi Minh's example, implemented by the Tran Island Border Guard Station since January 2023. Stationed on this frontline island of the Fatherland, the officers and soldiers of the unit not only perform their duties well in managing and protecting the sovereignty and security of the maritime border and islands, but also regularly care for and provide timely support, becoming a solid foundation for fishermen to confidently venture out to sea.
Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Cuong, Political Officer of Tran Island Border Guard Station, said: "Learning from and following President Ho Chi Minh's teachings, and closely adhering to the characteristics of the area, the officers and soldiers of the unit always demonstrate a high level of responsibility, especially in training, combat readiness, and rescue operations. At the same time, we regularly promote the dissemination of legal regulations on fishing and seafood exploitation, and raise legal awareness and disaster prevention among fishermen; we also pay attention to creating conditions to help the people in the coastal and island border areas develop socio-economic conditions."
Implementing the "Supporting Fishermen at Sea" model, the unit organized legal education and awareness campaigns for over 1,520 people, distributed over 500 leaflets and 420 national flags, guided 96 vessel owners in signing commitments not to violate foreign waters for illegal fishing; and registered and inspected 152 vessels and 427 fishermen operating in the area.
The unit coordinated with relevant agencies and armed forces on the island to conduct propaganda and mobilization efforts targeting over 300 boats and 1,260 fishermen working at sea, encouraging them to seek shelter from monsoon winds and storms, and successfully rescued 4 fishermen in distress at sea. Through this model, fishermen not only venture out to sea and develop the economy, but also become an important force alongside border guards in protecting the sacred sovereignty of the nation's seas and islands.
Learning from and following President Ho Chi Minh's example, and stemming from the unique nature of their work, border guards at the Mong Cai International Border Gate frequently interact with and process immigration procedures for thousands of Vietnamese citizens and foreign tourists. The Party Committee and Command of the Mong Cai International Border Gate Border Guard Station have built an image of friendly, compassionate, civilized, and courteous border guards, upholding the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers. This has left a positive impression on the people and tourists, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnam and its people to the international community, attracting investment, and fostering socio-economic development.
This is just one of many innovative models and approaches in learning from and following President Ho Chi Minh's teachings that the border guards have effectively implemented with all their love and responsibility towards the people in border and island areas. Many models have been comprehensively and synchronously implemented throughout the Border Guard Force, yielding great results, such as the "Army's Contribution to Building New Rural Areas" program, "Shelter for the Poor in Border and Island Areas," "Accompanying Women in Border Regions," "Border Guard Spring - Warming the Hearts of the People," "Helping Children Go to School," and "Adopted Children of Border Guard Posts"...
Through various mobilization efforts, during the period 2019-2024, the Provincial Border Guard Command, in coordination with provincial departments, agencies, mass organizations, businesses, and philanthropists, supported and built 90 houses and public works worth over 4.1 billion VND, donated over 3,500 gifts worth over 3.8 billion VND; provided medical examinations and dispensed medicine to thousands of people; donated over 35,000 national flags and 32,000 portraits of President Ho Chi Minh to people in border and island areas; and sponsored 111 disadvantaged students in border areas with a total support amount of over 3 billion VND...
These models and methods are concrete manifestations of learning from and following President Ho Chi Minh's example, contributing to further enhancing the image of the Ho Chi Minh's soldiers in the northeastern border region of the Fatherland.
