On the morning of May 29, the Chairman of the Supreme Election Council of Türkiye confirmed that incumbent Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won the second round of the presidential election, thereby continuing to lead the country for the next 5 years.

According to Türkiye's Supreme Election Council, with 99.43% of the votes counted, incumbent President Erdogan won 52.14% of the votes, while his opponent Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), won only 47.68% of the votes. Mr. Kilicdaroglu admitted defeat and accepted the voting results.
Speaking after his victory, President Erdogan thanked Turkish voters for entrusting him with the power to run the country until 2028, and called on the people to unite.
Previously, in the first round, President Erdogan led with 49.52% of the votes, while Mr. Kilicdaroglu received about 45%. Therefore, the presidential election had to be held in the second round on May 28 because no candidate won more than 50% of the votes.
Leaders of many countries around the world such as the US President, British Prime Minister, Russian President, Egyptian President, Iranian President and the King of Qatar immediately congratulated Mr. Erdogan on his victory. The European Union (EU) and NATO also congratulated Mr. Erdogan on his re-election.
