The two US presidential candidates are neck and neck in the final days before what could be the most expensive election in history, with the candidates and their supporters having raised more than $3.8 billion as of mid-October 2024.

A Financial Times analysis of campaign finance records shows that billionaires have donated at least $695 million, or about 18% of the total money raised in this election cycle.
Candidate Donald Trump is particularly reliant on American billionaires, with about a third of the money raised in his campaign and through support groups coming from billionaires, compared to about 6% for the money raised by groups supporting candidate Kamala Harris.
In all, at least 144 people on Forbes ' list of about 800 American billionaires are using their wealth to contribute to the 2024 US presidential election.
The numbers represent a huge jump in the amount of cash pouring into American politics since 2010, when the Supreme Court ruled that individuals could donate unlimited amounts to super PACs.
Campaign filings may underestimate the total amount raised by ultra-wealthy donors because the identities of individuals donating to some nonprofits are kept secret.
About $127 million, or about 6% of Ms. Harris’s funding, came from billionaires, a smaller proportion than Mr. Trump.
Meanwhile, pro-Trump groups have received at least $568 million from billionaires, or about 34% of the money his campaign has raised. About $432 million of that came from just four donors.
