According to the New York Times, technology billionaire Elon Musk, who has a close ally relationship with US President-elect Donald Trump, met with Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani to ease tensions between Iran and the US.

The newspaper cited unnamed Iranian sources as describing the meeting between the world's richest man and Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani as "positive". The two sides met for more than an hour at a secret location on November 11.
If confirmed, the meeting could provide an early indication that Mr Trump is serious about diplomacy with Iran and is not opting for a more hardline approach to appease many conservative members of the US Republican Party as well as its ally Israel.
On the other hand, this move will also once again show the special influence of billionaire Musk, owner of Tesla and X, who is almost always present at Mr. Trump's side and is said to have participated in the US President-elect's phone calls with world leaders.
During his first term as president, Mr. Trump scrapped a deal on Iran’s nuclear program negotiated under his predecessor, Barack Obama, and instead pursued a policy of “maximum pressure,” including efforts to force other countries not to buy Iranian oil.
However, during the recent election campaign, Mr. Trump spoke out to leave open a diplomatic solution, although he still publicly supported Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who ordered a military attack on Iran in parallel with Israel's conflict with the Hamas movement.
On the same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced that his country is ready for nuclear negotiations if other parties are serious about this issue.
According to the announcement of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Mr. Araghchi made this statement after meeting with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi, who is visiting the Iranian capital Tehran.
"Since we are certain of the peaceful nature of our nuclear program, we have no problem cooperating with this agency and can continue these cooperative activities. However, for that purpose, other parties should also fulfill their obligations and responsibilities," the Iranian foreign minister said.
