On January 27, the Traffic Police Department of An Giang Province Police said that they had just caught a case of illegal sand mining on the Hau River at dawn.

Previously, at around 3:00 a.m. on January 26, the Working Group of the Waterway Police Team (under the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police) patrolled and controlled the Hau River.

When arriving at the water area of ​​Binh Duc 5 hamlet (Binh Duc ward, Long Xuyen city), the authorities discovered and caught a watercraft (iron boat) red-handed in the act of pumping sand from the riverbed onto the vehicle, estimated at about 20m3 of sand.

Upon inspection, there were 3 subjects on the vehicle: Nguyen Van CE (35 years old, residing in Thoai Son district) was the vehicle owner; Tran Van D. (46 years old) and Huynh Van T. (28 years old, both residing in Long Xuyen city) were hired workers.

All three subjects could not present documents related to the vehicle, as well as the river sand mining license issued by the competent authority.

Working with the task force, the subjects admitted to their illegal sand mining. In addition, CE also admitted that on January 22, at the same location where they were discovered, the subjects hired T. and D. to illegally mine about 17 cubic meters of sand, which they sold to residents in Thoai Son district for land leveling.

The case is currently under investigation.
