Inadequacies in public lighting

BPO - Streetlights and public lighting not only facilitate convenient traffic and daily life for residents at night but also effectively ensure security and order in the area. In Dong Xoai City, this public lighting system has received considerable investment; however, in some areas, despite having lights, the illumination is weak and ineffective, causing frustration among residents.

Ho Xuan Huong Street has a well-maintained lighting system, but many sections are dark, posing a danger to road users.

For over a year now, residents living along the embankment of Dong Tien stream in Tan Xuan ward, Dong Xoai city, have been baffled by the fact that the public streetlights, despite being fully installed and well-maintained, are not working. The lack of lighting not only creates a lack of illumination but also represents a waste of resources and poses a safety risk to people traveling through the area.

Ms. Pham Thi Hanh, residing in Tan Xuan neighborhood, Tan Xuan ward, stated: “I’ve lived here for a long time, and the streetlights are designed this way but aren’t very effective. Sometimes, when it gets dark, children and the elderly want to go out for a walk or exercise, but without adequate lighting, it’s very dangerous. There are 10 lights in this area, but only about 3 are on, so residents are very hesitant to go out at night. Furthermore, this area is right at a three-way intersection, and there have been many accidents and social problems like theft occurring at night.”

“On both sides of the Dong Tien stream, the authorities have installed streetlights, but only 1 out of 4 or 5 lights is working, and the areas that need lighting are not illuminated. At 5 a.m., when we are out exercising, the lights are already off, plunging everything into darkness. I urge the relevant authorities to address this issue promptly and install streetlights so that we can live peacefully and enjoy the modern life of the young city of Dong Xoai,” shared Ms. Pham Thi Nga from Tan Xuan neighborhood, Tan Xuan ward.

The area along the embankment of Dong Tien stream, Tan Xuan neighborhood, Tan Xuan ward, Dong Xoai city, has a well-maintained lighting system but it is not functioning.

This area along the embankment of Suoi Dong Tien stream is densely lit with electric lamps, but it is shrouded in darkness at night.

Not only along the Dong Tien stream embankment, but many roads in Dong Xoai City have inconsistent streetlights, causing difficulties for traffic at night, especially Ho Xuan Huong road. This road has a high volume of traffic, with many fast-moving vehicles, numerous sidewalk stalls, and a dense population. The lack of lighting is a cause for concern among residents.

Mr. Phung Manh Hung, residing in Group 5, Phu Thinh neighborhood, Tan Phu ward, Dong Xoai city, suggested: "I hope the relevant authorities will soon repair the streetlights in Phu Thinh neighborhood so that people can travel safely."

Le Loi Street, Phu Thinh neighborhood, Tan Phu ward, Dong Xoai city has about 10 streetlights, but only a few are lit.

Public streetlights not only provide illumination but also contribute to ensuring public safety, reducing the risk of traffic accidents, and deterring criminals from exploiting the darkness for their activities. Hopefully, based on feedback from residents, local authorities and management agencies will soon address the issue, bringing light and safety back to the people.

Regarding the Đồng Tiền stream embankment area, the enterprise has received feedback from residents about the inadequate state of the public lighting system, with many lights not working. The main reason is the theft of electrical wires, which has affected the daily lives and transportation of people in the area. After these incidents occurred, the enterprise coordinated with the police in the wards to verify and record the information, and reported it to the City People's Committee for direction. Regarding the public lighting system on Hồ Xuân Hương street, after a field survey, the enterprise found that the current density of lights is quite high compared to the needs, leading to wasted electricity. In the context of electricity conservation, adjusting the number of lights or the lighting power on this street is necessary.
