In recent years, the agricultural sector and localities in the province have always paid attention to and implemented many solutions to regenerate and protect aquatic resources, contributing to increasing people's income and developing the aquaculture industry in a sustainable direction.

Protect and regenerate aquatic resources for sustainable development The Department of Fisheries coordinated with the Buddhist Association and the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa City to release fish fry into the Ma River area, Tao Xuyen Ward (Thanh Hoa City).

Having made a living by fishing on the river for many years, in recent years, the exploitation of Ms. Le Thi Tuyet's family in Nga Lien commune (Nga Son) has encountered many difficulties, and their life is not secure. Ms. Tuyet said: "Previously, we only fished in the Hoi Dao ferry area, and each night we could catch 20-30kg of fish and shrimp of all kinds. However, recently, the natural aquatic resources on the river have been decreasing, exploitation is more difficult, there are days when we travel dozens of kilometers of river but the income is insignificant, not ensuring life. Not only my family but many other households working in the fishing profession have switched to trading or doing other service jobs...".

Nga Son district has 20km of coastline and about 55km of river, which are favorable conditions for people to develop the aquatic economy. However, in recent times, hundreds of workers in the exploitation and fishing sector have actively switched to other jobs. The reason given is that the aquatic output has decreased, and people cannot make a living from this profession. Faced with this situation, every year, implementing the agricultural sector's campaign on "Action Month for Protecting Aquatic Resources", Nga Son District People's Committee has developed a plan to propagate environmental protection, raise public awareness and mobilize people of all walks of life to join hands in protecting aquatic resources, preserving environmental hygiene and natural resources. At the same time, releasing shrimp and crab fry into water bodies to create sources and increase aquatic output in nature. Mr. Pham Van Sinh, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nga Son district, said: Every year in the peak month (April), the district always launches and implements activities to regenerate and protect natural aquatic resources. In 2024, Nga Son district released more than 200,000 shrimp and 3,000 crabs into the Lach Sung estuary, Nga Bach commune to supplement aquatic resources and create livelihoods for people working in the fishing industry.

According to statistics from the Department of Fisheries, Thanh Hoa province has 102km of coastline, hundreds of large and small rivers and streams, with more than 120 species of fish, 12 species of shrimp and hundreds of other valuable aquatic and marine species. However, in recent years, the output of natural aquatic and marine products has decreased by 30-50%, with some species even becoming extinct. The current situation of natural aquatic resources in river systems and sea areas is increasingly declining, becoming alarming, not only affecting the livelihoods of a part of the people working in natural aquatic exploitation but also a difficult problem for the agricultural sector. The reasons given are that people exploit with destructive tools, the impact of environmental pollution...

Faced with the above situation, in addition to mobilizing and propagating for people working in the fishing industry and people living in river and coastal areas to implement sustainable fishing measures and protect the natural environment, the provincial agricultural sector and localities also accompany in socializing the work of patrolling, controlling, detecting and promptly handling violations in fishing, exploiting aquatic resources and regenerating and developing aquatic products. At the same time, every year, the Department of Fisheries has coordinated with localities to guide people to release aquatic species that are beneficial to the ecological environment, contributing to the regeneration of aquatic resources, restoring aquatic species with high economic value, especially freshwater aquatic species, in order to develop the economy sustainably and responsibly towards the environment.

In the first months of 2024, the Department of Fisheries coordinated with organizations, unions and some localities to organize 5 rounds of releasing fish fry, regenerating aquatic resources, in Thanh Hoa city, Nga Son, Quan Son, Thuong Xuan districts... The total amount of fry released into the river system, lakes, coastal areas is about 6 tons, including freshwater fish fry, crabs, shrimp...

With practical and meaningful activities to protect and regenerate aquatic resources, the agricultural sector has called on organizations, individuals engaged in aquatic exploitation and communities to join hands to protect and develop aquatic resources by actively participating in releasing and regenerating aquatic resources. At the same time, maintaining this activity as an annual activity, contributing to protecting the environment, ecosystem, diversifying aquatic products, and developing effective and sustainable aquatic exploitation.
