The mountainous area of Thanh Hoa is a long-standing home to ethnic minorities such as Muong, Thai, Mong, Dao, Tho, Kho Mu... In order to preserve and promote traditional cultural values associated with tourism development, in recent years, mountainous districts in the province have had many solutions to restore and preserve traditional cultural values, especially brocade weaving, associated with tourism development, thereby creating jobs and increasing income for people.
Brocade weaving in Lan village, Lung Niem commune (Ba Thuoc) brings a significant source of income to the people.
Located in Pu Luong Eco-tourism Area, Lung Niem Commune (Ba Thuoc) has advantages to develop community tourism. Over the years, the Party Committee and the communal government have always determined that in order to develop tourism, preserving traditional cultural values is a key task. Therefore, the commune has mobilized people to preserve traditional cultural values, such as: stilt houses, costumes, games, performances, traditional dishes..., including the traditional brocade weaving profession of the Thai ethnic group (mainly in Lan village). Up to now, in Lan village, there are over 100 women members participating in the brocade weaving profession, with products such as: brocade fabrics, scarves, hats, clothes, pillows, brocade bags, tablecloths, chair cushions... to serve tourists. From the beginning of 2024 to now, nearly 1,000 foreign tourists have come to Lan village. In addition to sightseeing and buying brocade products of the craft village, foreign tourists also love and buy many traditional brocade products of the craft village as souvenirs. Thanks to the traditional brocade weaving profession, the life of the ethnic people here has improved a lot, the number of tourists coming to the craft village is increasing day by day.
Coming to Cam Luong Fish Stream Tourist Area (Cam Thuy), many brocade products with brilliant colors, diverse designs and types are sold. Many tourists who have the opportunity to come here, when returning do not forget to buy for themselves gifts made of brocade. Although the gifts are rustic and simple, they still carry the typical cultural features of ethnic minorities. Currently, in the commune, there are more than 40 households still maintaining the brocade weaving profession. In response to customer demand, households are constantly innovating their products and designs to better suit the market. The main products are scarves, skirts, bags, blankets and mattresses... Women do not have to go far to work, taking advantage of the free time of farming to have income.
Implementing the Project "Preserving and developing traditional crafts and craft villages in ethnic minority areas of Thanh Hoa province, period 2016-2020", up to now, in the districts of Muong Lat, Quan Hoa, Ba Thuoc, Cam Thuy, 7 traditional brocade weaving villages have been formed. For sustainable development, localities have created conditions for the establishment of cooperatives to produce brocade products. Currently, brocade weaving is creating part-time jobs for thousands of workers in the mountainous areas of Thanh Hoa, mainly concentrated in community eco-tourism areas and spots.
To preserve the traditional brocade weaving craft, associated with the development of sustainable eco-tourism, mountainous districts in the province are finding solutions to form raw material areas, linking from production to product consumption, and at the same time building branded brocade products; building brocade craft villages into tourist destinations, and aiming to consider brocade weaving as a typical tourism product of the mountainous areas of Thanh Hoa.
