On November 12-13, Kon Tum Provincial Museum and Library opened two classes teaching folk songs and dances in the Xo Dang ethnic community for 60 people in Dak Ui commune, Dak Ha district and Dak Tang commune, Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province.
Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Director of Kon Tum Provincial Museum and Library, said that Xoang dancing and folk singing are valuable intangible cultural heritages, closely associated with the working and production life of the Xo Dang ethnic community in the province in the past as well as the present. These art forms are created during the working and production process, first of all to serve the entertainment needs, then to thank the gods for blessing the community with good luck, health and bountiful harvests in a year.

However, in the era of technology 4.0, traditional cultural and artistic forms are gradually fading away, as the younger generation is not too interested. Therefore, organizing teaching classes to preserve and promote the value of traditional folk songs, as well as traditional dances and xoang dances of the Xo Dang ethnic group in Kon Tum province.
In addition, contributing with the Party committees, authorities, and organizations of Dak Ui commune, Dak Ha district and Dak Tang commune, Kon Plong district, to preserve and promote the value of intangible cultural heritage of the Xo Dang ethnic group; mobilizing the strength of collectives and individuals, especially the Xo Dang ethnic community, in preserving and promoting the value of ancient folk songs and traditional Xoang dances and dances of the Xo Dang ethnic group in a synchronous and effective manner. During the teaching process, the artisans have selected typical traditional folk songs, traditional Xoang dances and dances of the Xo Dang ethnic group. In Dak Ui commune, Dak Ha district, the folk songs taught include: Cheo celebrating the new year - Cheo Hra hnam nia, Cheo labor production - Cheo lam pek gong; Tinh tinh tinh tinh nam nu; Cheo celebrating new rice...; Xoang dances include Bai ga crow - ieu rong; xoang worshiping the water trough (hnhon kleng tea); xoang worshiping the buffalo stabbing (hnhon ka po)... In Vi Ro Ngheo village, Dak Tang commune, Kon Plong district, artisans teach folk songs such as Singing about Vi Ro Ngheo, Vi Ro Ngheo people unite like flowing water, cheo working in production, cheo advising children and grandchildren;... xoang dances such as the song about eating new rice, celebrating the new communal house...

Elder A Chung, village elder of Vi Ro Ngheo village, Dak Tang commune, Kon Plong district, said that when they are tired from working in the fields, the Xo Dang people in Vi Ro Ngheo sing folk songs to each other to forget the fatigue after a hard day's work. However, now, in the village, there are only a few elders who know how to sing. "I am very happy, opening a class like this shows that the Party, the State and the authorities at all levels always care about the culture and traditional arts of the Xo Dang people. The classes will help the younger generation of the village understand the culture of their people, so that the young people will learn and continue to pass it on in the future. In particular, when Vi Ro Ngheo has been recognized as a community tourism village, traditional art forms will be performed to domestic and foreign tourists, helping the Xo Dang culture to be more widely known," elder A Chung happily said. It is expected that the folk song and dance classes in the Xo Dang ethnic community will take place from now until November 22. The classes will end when the participants can perform some folk songs and traditional Xoang dances of the Xo Dang ethnic group.
