The conference was attended by nearly 750 delegates, including representatives of leaders of ministries, departments, branches, and associations at the central and local levels; press management and direction agencies, press management agencies; and leaders of press agencies.

The press has closely followed and vividly reflected the country's reality.

At the conference, delegates unanimously stated: In 2024, based on the direction of the directing, managing and governing agencies; closely following the practical situation, press agencies will continue to promote information and propaganda on the implementation and concretization of the Resolution of the 13th National Congress into life; promote bold, extensive and highly pervasive propaganda on important political and diplomatic events and major holidays of the country. Continue to proactively promote propaganda on Party building and rectification work; prevent and combat corruption, negativity and waste. Information and propaganda on the management and implementation of socio-economic goals and targets will have many innovations and creativity in the direction of closely following and reflecting vivid reality, thereby analyzing, explaining and proposing and recommending solutions to promote more effective and quality implementation. Information and propaganda work to protect the Party's ideological foundation and combat erroneous and hostile viewpoints has increasingly gone into depth and achieved positive results.

From August 2024, press agencies will devote space and time to building special pages and columns, organizing seminars and exchanges to inform, propagate and analyze the new era, the era of the Vietnamese people's rise; highlighting the messages and instructions of General Secretary To Lam on innovating the Party's leadership methods, on digital transformation, on building a socialist rule-of-law state...

In particular, the press has promoted information and propaganda, contributing to creating high unity in awareness and action throughout the Party and the entire political system in implementing the summary of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW of the 12th Party Central Committee "Some issues on continuing to innovate and reorganize the apparatus of the political system to be streamlined and operate effectively and efficiently".

In addition to the achievements, delegates also pointed out some limitations and shortcomings of press work in 2024; issues, challenges and opportunities for the press when entering the 100-year milestone of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press and requirements and demands when Vietnam enters a new era, the era of national growth.

The press must contribute to creating a solid foundation to bring the country into a new era.

Speaking at the conference, Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department acknowledged the results and commended the outstanding achievements that press agencies have achieved in 2024, contributing to the overall development and success of the whole country.

He affirmed that the achievements of the press in the past year had important contributions from the direction, orientation, and management of the press and association; the attention and leadership of the governing agencies; and especially the efforts and responsibilities of leaders, editors, reporters, and journalists nationwide.

2025 is the last year to implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the year of Party Congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress, a year with many important events and great anniversaries of the country. For journalists, 2025 is also a particularly meaningful year, an extremely important milestone: the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press. In order to fulfill the mission well and successfully achieve the goal of "building a professional, humane, and modern press and media", the Head of the Central Propaganda Department requested press agencies to continue to deeply, comprehensively, and promptly propagate the directives, resolutions, and policies of the Party and State, especially the guiding ideology of General Secretary To Lam on the new era, the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise. The press must contribute to creating a new development space, must encourage and create a creative emulation movement, strongly fight against barriers and stagnation, and contribute with the Party, State and People to create a solid foundation to bring the country into a new era of development.

Focus on propagating important political tasks, major events, and important anniversaries of the country in 2025, especially the Party Congresses at all levels leading up to the 14th National Congress of the Party; the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam; the 135th birthday of beloved Uncle Ho; the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam...

Besides, it is necessary to continue to promptly and comprehensively reflect the political, economic, cultural and social life of the country, promote the image of an innovative and dynamic country, and contribute to enhancing the country's position and prestige in the international arena.

Creating institutional breakthroughs and removing difficulties for the press to promote its mission

Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia requested that state management agencies on the press need to focus on reviewing and evaluating the implementation of the National Press Development and Management Plan until 2025; advising on amending and supplementing the 2016 Press Law and legal documents on the press in the direction of resolutely abandoning the mindset of "if you can't manage it, then ban it"; creating further institutional breakthroughs, removing difficulties, obstacles, and bottlenecks to unblock all resources, creating an environment for the press to best and most effectively promote its role, responsibility, and professional mission.

At the same time, resolutely revoke the operating licenses of newspapers and magazines that are prone to serious and prolonged violations. Social organizations and socio-professional organizations need to proactively reorganize the apparatus of their affiliated magazine agencies and propose to competent authorities to revoke the magazine operating licenses if deemed unnecessary.

The Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, and the Vietnam Journalists Association continue to maintain their role in directing, guiding, and managing the press. Along with institutional breakthroughs, it is necessary to pay real attention to supporting press agencies in digital transformation; promptly handling and recommending competent authorities to handle press economic issues, harmoniously and appropriately resolving the implementation of political tasks and financial autonomy; between improving the quality of ideological orientation, education, and aesthetics and meeting people's entertainment needs; between the method of managing social networks and general electronic information sites and the method of managing the press. Resolutely handle the situation of "newspaperization" of general electronic information sites, not allowing general electronic information sites to become "super press agencies".

Press agencies need to focus on disseminating the summary of the implementation of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW on streamlining the organizational apparatus. The press needs to proactively guide public opinion so that the streamlining of the apparatus can be quickly implemented throughout the political system.

Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia shared the concerns and worries of journalists at press agencies subject to merger and termination of operations; at the same time, he affirmed that the implementation of this policy is very important and necessary for revolutionary journalism with the highest and most important goal of improving the quality and effectiveness of information and propaganda in the press, so that each press agency is stronger, each journalist is more confident, loves, is passionate and enthusiastic about his profession, and firmly believes in building a new era of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism. The Party and the State will have policies and mechanisms to ensure the rights of press agencies and journalists affected by the reorganization and streamlining; there will be policies to invest resources to ensure that press agencies after the reorganization operate stably and develop.

Regarding the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia requested that the celebration activities need to be organized solemnly, impressively, practically, creating a strong spread in society.
