The Vietnam Military History Museum is one of the largest and oldest military museums in Vietnam, preserving and promoting the military historical values of the nation. Established in 1956, the Museum is located next to the Hanoi Flag Tower, a familiar address for domestic and international tourists when coming to the capital. Since 2020, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense and the General Department of Politics have deployed the construction of a new Vietnam Military History Museum at Km6 + 500 Thang Long Avenue, Tay Mo - Dai Mo Ward, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi. The museum is built on an area of 386,600m2 , with a scale of 4 floors above ground, 1 basement, modern design and diverse functions. The highlight of the project is the Victory Tower, 45 meters high, shaped like overlapping 5-pointed stars symbolizing Vietnam's independence in 1945. The museum currently preserves more than 150,000 artifacts, including 4 national treasures and many valuable artifacts. In the display components, the museum applies many modern methods so that visitors can interact and better understand the struggle for national independence such as: 3D mapping sand table technology, information lookup screens, media documents, automatic explanations, QR codes to look up information about artifacts and images. More than 60 video clips introducing campaigns, battles and historical figures are also integrated, creating a lively and emotional space. The museum has basically completed phase 1 and officially opened to visitors from November 1, 2024. By November 30, the Museum had welcomed 364,000 visitors, including 224 international and domestic delegations. The organization of welcoming and serving the delegations was responsible and thoughtful. In phase 2, the project continued to display 8 topics, 7 collections, 12 military specialties; restore typical military works; sculptures, outdoor experience space; creative space; eco-tourism; children's play area and service area for visitors. When all items are completed, the Vietnam Military History Museum will be a multi-functional, comprehensive, and typical cultural institution of the capital Hanoi and the country; comprehensively and deeply reflecting the military history of Vietnam through the ages, contributing to preserving and promoting the quintessence of the nation's military cultural heritage. Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the Vietnam Military History Museum is a particularly important project of the Vietnam People's Army and the Nation. The General Secretary praised the Ministry of National Defense and units for directing the construction of the project to ensure progress and quality; and expressed his joy at seeing so many people visiting the museum in an excited and eager atmosphere. The General Secretary emphasized that the project was put into operation and welcomed visitors on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day, which is very meaningful in terms of historical education, promoting patriotism, national pride and meeting the needs of research, study, sightseeing and cultural enjoyment of people of all walks of life in the country and international friends. The elaborate and modern exhibition scenario, with rich and vivid content, has brought great effectiveness in propaganda work. Cadres, party members, people, and international friends have the opportunity to learn, study, research, and gain a deeper understanding of Vietnam's military guidelines and art, and the nation's heroic revolutionary history. The General Secretary suggested that it is necessary to urgently complete phase 2 to put the entire project into operation, maximizing the role and value of the Museum; becoming a proud destination of Vietnam to introduce to international friends. The General Secretary noted that Vietnam's military history has existed since the early days of nation building, closely linked to the nation's struggles to defend the country. The Vietnam People's Army was born from the people, fighting for the people, so in the exhibition themes, it is necessary to add content about the role of the people, the bond between the army and the people, deeply demonstrating the people's war guidelines, creating great revolutionary achievements. The museum's exhibition content also needs to more clearly demonstrate foreign defense activities, military cooperation, contributing to firmly protecting the country's independence and sovereignty, maintaining peace and political stability in the region and internationally. Continue to collect historical artifacts, research more topics, add visual and vivid presentation tools to deeply demonstrate the heroic feats of arms of the army and people, the glorious victories of the nation, creating more appeal, attracting a large number of visitors to the museum. Writing in the guestbook after visiting the exhibition booths at the Museum, the General Secretary expressed his emotion when reliving the scene of Tran Hung Dao forest in the past; meeting the groups of porters carrying rice all over the Northwest, the garrison uniforms of Dien Bien soldiers, Muong Thanh, Hong Cum, Him Lam; the cannons clinging to the mountainside with the entire people and army to create the victory "Resounding in five continents, shaking the earth"; seeing the army troops "cutting through Truong Son to save the country" to liberate the South and unify the country, seeing the Vietnamese mountains and rivers united as one; seeing the maturity, growth and modernity of the Vietnam People's Army; the trust and pride of the Party, Government and People in "Uncle Ho's soldiers" and seeing "Uncle Ho still marching with us" on every road of the country. The General Secretary believes that the Vietnam Military History Museum will always be a "red address", a special cultural space for people across the country, our compatriots abroad and friends from all over the world to visit, learn and study about the tradition of the "Invincible" army of the heroic Vietnamese people.
