On the morning of November 9, Bao Phuong Vinh faced Peter Ceulemans (Belgium) in the round of 16 of the Seoul 2024 Billiards World Cup. In this round, the players who hit knock-out shots reached 50 points, not in the same turn.
The Vietnamese player started well and continuously led against Peter Ceulemans in the first half of the match. After the first 5 rounds, Bao Phuong Vinh led 12-6. The gap increased when the Binh Duong player led 18-7 against Peter Ceulemans, after the match had passed 10 rounds. Bao Phuong Vinh brought the match into the break in the 16th round, when he led 26-16 against the Belgian player.
Bao Phuong Vinh had a dramatic comeback to win a ticket to the semi-finals.
However, the wind changed completely when entering the second half. Peter Ceulemans had 2 consecutive series: 5 and 7 points to surpass Bao Phuong Vinh for the first time and lead 28-26. The Belgian player was excited and scored regularly, with continuous series. On the other side, Bao Phuong Vinh was now under psychological pressure and his shots were no longer smooth.
After 24 rounds, Peter Ceulemans reached 45 points and was only 5 points away from victory. At this point, many people thought that Bao Phuong Vinh would say goodbye to the tournament. However, the wind changed direction once again in this match. The Belgian player suddenly slowed down and could not score any more points in the following rounds.

In the 25th turn, Bao Phuong Vinh had a series of 5, and scored 7 more points in the 27th turn, to shorten the gap to 44-45. In the 29th turn, the 2023 World Championship champion ended the match, winning 50-45 overall against Peter Ceulemans. Thereby, Phuong Vinh became the first Vietnamese player to participate in the quarter-finals of the Seoul Billiards World Cup 2024.
In the match at the same time, Cho Myung-woo defeated Heo Jung-han with a close score of 50-49. Thus, Bao Phuong Vinh will face the Korean "prodigy" Cho Myung-woo in the quarter-finals, taking place this afternoon (November 9).
The remaining quarter-final match at the Seoul 2024 Billiards World Cup has been determined to be the clash between world number 1 Dick Jaspers (Netherlands) and Martin Horn (Germany).
