The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) quoted a well-informed source on November 15 saying that the reason why US President-elect Donald Trump is considering nominating Fox News host Larry Kudlow for the top economic position is because of the "cold war" between two other candidates for the position. The two remaining candidates are Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick and hedge fund manager Scott Bessent. Both are fiercely competing to lead the US Treasury Department. Mr. Trump's advisers currently consider Mr. Kudlow as a candidate for the position of head of the National Economic Council (NEC) or the Treasury Department. Mr. Kudlow served as NEC Chairman for three years during Mr. Trump's first term. He has been in regular contact with the President-elect and is said to be a guest at Mr. Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida this week. However, Bloomberg quoted a source familiar with the matter as saying that Mr. Kudlow has told the President-elect's team that he does not want to take on any position in the incoming Trump administration. Mr. Kudlow has not commented. A Fox News spokesperson told the New York Post: "Larry Kudlow recently signed a new agreement to continue hosting his eponymous show on Fox Business and has no plans to leave his current leading role, one of the highest-rated programs on the network." Previously, another Fox News host was also chosen by Mr. Trump for the position of Secretary of Defense, Mr. Pete Hegseth, 44 years old. Immediately after being elected president on November 5, Mr. Trump quickly completed the personnel apparatus for the new administration. Yesterday, the President-elect appointed campaign spokeswoman, Ms. Karoline Leavitt, 27 years old, as White House press secretary. Leavitt will thus be the youngest White House press secretary in US history. Leavitt is the first Republican from Gen Z to win a House primary. Before running for Congress, she worked for Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, a Republican from New York, who was nominated by Mr. Trump to be the US ambassador to the United Nations. Mr. Trump's second-term staff includes many young faces from the 8X generation. The young staff is expected to bring new energy to his administration. In addition to nominations for security and defense personnel, nominations for positions in charge of operating the economy are of particular importance to President-elect Trump - who is rated higher than the Democratic candidate in terms of experience and economic management capacity. According to WSJ , Mr. Trump has discussed with Mr. Robert Lighthizer, who was the special trade envoy in the previous term, and Apollo Global Management CEO Marc Rowan for senior economic roles. President-elect Trump has signaled that, in this term, he will continue to pursue trade protection policies, imposing tariffs on imported goods to protect domestic production in the spirit of "America First".
