Coach Mai Duc Chung announced his departure from the Vietnamese women's team after the second qualifying round of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Most recently, the famous newspaper Siam Sport gave the head coach of the Vietnamese women's team many compliments.

“Talented coach Mai Duc Chung announced that he will leave the Vietnamese women's team at the end of 2023. He has no intention of renewing his contract even though the VFF is always ready for that,” reported a Thai newspaper.

Siam Sport newspaper said that the reason coach Mai Duc Chung retired was due to poor health.

In addition, this newspaper also praised Mr. Mai Duc Chung's action of introducing coach Akira Ijiri to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

Siam Sport's writer emphasized that coach Mai Duc Chung's great contributions to Vietnamese women's football are unforgettable.

“Coach Mai Duc Chung’s contributions during his time leading the Vietnamese women’s team were enormous. Under Chung, the Vietnamese women’s team won the SEA Games 6 out of 8 times they participated, won the Southeast Asian women’s football championship in 2019, and qualified for the World Cup in 2023.

Her excellent performance throughout her career has made coach Mai Duc Chung a great legend of Vietnamese women's football," wrote the leading daily newspaper of the Golden Temple country.

Meanwhile, the ASEAN Football website compiled the titles that the Vietnamese women's team has achieved under the coach born in 1951.

Besides giving coach Mai Duc Chung many compliments, ASEAN Football also expressed regret when he announced his retirement at the age of 73.

The Vietnamese women's team is currently in Uzbekistan to prepare for the second qualifying round of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

At this stage, the girls in red will face Uzbekistan (October 26), India (October 29) and Japan (November 1).
