On the afternoon of June 14, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of World Blood Donor Day (June 14, 2004 - June 14, 2024), at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with 100 outstanding voluntary blood donors nationwide in 2024.
At the meeting, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan reported to the National Assembly Chairman on the results of voluntary blood donation (VBD) and honoring activities in 2024. Accordingly, in 1994, the first year of launching the movement, the amount of blood received was only 138,000 units, the rate of VBD reached 14.5%. Since 2014, the amount of blood received has reached over 1 million units of blood each year. The amount of blood received in 2023 was over 1.55 million units of blood, the rate of VBD reached 99%, equivalent to 1.5% of the population donating blood...
Up to now, 100% of provincial-level units; 99.2% of district-level units and 86% of commune-level units have established Steering Committees for voluntary blood donation. In addition, thousands of voluntary blood donation clubs, hundreds of reserve blood donation clubs, clubs for people with rare blood types and many fixed blood donation points have been established and operated effectively in localities...
Speaking at the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sent his best wishes to all delegates, especially the 100 outstanding national voluntary blood donors in 2024.
The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that humanity, compassion, and "loving others as you love yourself" are precious traditions of our nation. In times of difficulty, accident, and misfortune, our people not only share food and clothes with each other but also find ways to save people from danger. In addition, thanks to a safe and quality blood source, it also helps the health sector to deploy and apply many new modern techniques such as organ transplantation and stem cell transplantation.
"Along with a team of medical staff with "deep medical knowledge, good medical ethics, and good medical skills" and the conditions of facilities and equipment, it is extremely important for hospitals to have enough safe and quality blood sources," the National Assembly Chairman emphasized.
On behalf of the leaders of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front, the National Assembly Chairman warmly commended all voluntary blood donors nationwide and thanked the kind and loving hearts in the community.
In the coming time, along with changes in population structure, advances in medicine, as well as in hematology and blood transfusion, the National Assembly Chairman suggested that relevant agencies and organizations must develop solutions to maintain and develop regular blood donors and repeat blood donors so that voluntary blood donation activities become more stable and sustainable, ensuring safe and quality blood sources at all levels, including remote areas, border areas and islands.
Of the 100 honored delegates, 22 are female. The oldest delegate is 60 years old, the youngest is 22 years old. Typically, delegate Nguyen Van Hieu (Hanoi) has donated blood and platelets 124 times, delegate Vu Dinh Pham (HCMC) has donated blood 103 times, delegate Vu Duy Khanh (Hai Phong) has donated blood 82 times... Typical blood donation families include the family of Mrs. Ho Thi Hong Gam (Vinh Phuc province) who donated blood 96 times, and the family of Mr. Dao Nhat Khoa (Quang Ngai province) who donated blood 95 times. In addition to participating in the Blood Donation Campaign, the delegates also actively promote and mobilize the community and their families to participate in the Blood Donation Campaign.
