Ensuring safe parachute operations

The parasailing game has recently received special attention from tourists visiting the coastal city of Da Nang. However, this is an extreme sport, so to ensure the safety of tourists, the authorities need to increase warnings and closely monitor, especially when the beach tourism season is about to begin.

One afternoon in early April, My Khe beach attracted a large number of locals and tourists to have fun and relax, the most exciting of which was the parasailing game. “The feeling of soaring above the waves was exciting and made me a little scared. Immediately after that, I felt like I was flying in the middle of the sea and sky, feeling the immense beauty of the sea, having a new perspective of Da Nang city from the sea. This was extremely interesting,” said Nguyen Ngoc Tin (a tourist from Gia Lai).

Mr. Tran Thanh Thien, CEO of DanaBeach, a provider of sea sports entertainment services, said that sea games in Da Nang are diverse and suitable for many tourists, from light relaxation to scuba diving and coral viewing; especially tourists who love adventurous sea sports want to experience the parasailing game.

To prepare for a flight, the speedboat approaches the paragliding canoe, carries a tow rope connecting it to the paragliding rope on the shore and the tourist; then the tourist is secured to the paragliding rope with hooks and equipped with a life jacket. Support staff stretch the rope and parachute so that the canoe can pull the player up. The paragliding canoe flies at an altitude of about 50-100m so that participants can enjoy the view of the sea and the city. Depending on the path of the canoe, the paraglider also changes height to help increase the thrill for the tourist.

“This activity makes the sea space of Da Nang more vibrant. Domestic and foreign tourists love this sport. In order to ensure the safety of tourists, the unit has focused on ensuring the safety of tourists, carefully advising players as well as giving detailed instructions before participating, with a list of regulations for customers using the service in Vietnamese and many other international languages…”, Mr. Thien said.

According to Mr. Tran Dai Nghia, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches, for parasailing in particular and sea sports in general, the management board has instructed businesses to have safety measures when doing business such as warning signs; rescue plans; ensuring communication; arranging and using trainers, technicians, and guides with appropriate expertise...

At the same time, buy insurance for tourists, do not let the elderly or children participate. To date, there have been no unfortunate accidents when participating in the parasailing game, but occasionally there have been some cases of choking on water or water shock due to tourists losing their composure when landing from high above into the water. Like the recent case of a tourist choking on water, the rescue team as well as the parasailing unit staff provided timely and thoughtful support.

“There are unexpected incidents due to weather, player psychology, etc. Therefore, we also remind adventure sports business units to carefully advise players; conversely, players also need to consider their health status before signing the participation commitment form,” Mr. Nghia advised. According to Mr. Nghia, sports tourism has recently attracted a large number of tourists to localities and created positive contributions to the industry’s revenue. As the beach tourism season approaches, the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches has increased safety assurance for sea sports activities.

People and tourists need to strictly follow the recommendations of the authorities, be careful when participating in sea sports, do not arbitrarily use sports equipment (SUP boards, kayaks, etc.) at tourist attractions to swim out to sea without the guidance of rescue forces; do not participate in paragliding, scuba diving, parasailing, etc. if your health is not guaranteed; at the same time, the management board coordinates with relevant agencies to continue to tighten the inspection and management of sea sports activities, promptly and strictly handle violations by related organizations and individuals.
