Apple announced that it will increase spending on suppliers in Vietnam in addition to supporting clean water initiatives for local schools. Apple said it has invested nearly VND400 trillion ($16 billion) in Vietnam since 2019 through its supply chain partners.
Vietnam has seen the number of companies assembling Apple products quadruple over the past decade, according to Bloomberg data.
“From partnering with local suppliers, to supporting clean water projects and educational opportunities, we are committed to continuing to strengthen our connections in Vietnam,” Cook said in a statement.
According to assessments and analysis by AFP and Al Jazeera news agencies, Vietnam has emerged as Apple's most important manufacturing hub besides China in recent years, with suppliers such as Luxshare, Foxconn, Compal and GoerTek employing more than 150,000 Vietnamese workers.
During his visit, Mr. Cook is expected to meet with programmers, students and content creators as well as users of Apple products.
After arriving in Hanoi on Monday, Mr. Cook posted photos on X showing the tech chief drinking coffee with two musicians and taking selfies on the banks of Hoan Kiem Lake.

"Hello Vietnam! Thank you to the very talented musicians My Linh and My Anh for the very warm welcome. And I love egg coffee!", Apple CEO Tim Cook shared on social network X right after arriving in Hanoi.
Mr. Cook's post quickly went viral on social media, reaching hundreds of thousands of views in just a few hours.
Also in the morning, Apple's homepage announced that the company will make a long-term commitment to Vietnam through increased supplier support, investment in STEM education and environmental protection initiatives.
In May 2023, Apple officially launched the online Apple Store in Vietnam and deployed Apple Pay payment service from August 2023.
According to Reuters, Mr. Cook's trip takes place in the context of US President Joe Biden seeking to enhance Vietnam's position in the global technology supply chain.
In September, President Biden upgraded US-Vietnam relations to a “comprehensive strategic partnership” during a visit to Vietnam to boost trade and cooperation in key industries such as semiconductors.
