US President Joe Biden will pay a state visit to Vietnam on September 10-11 at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The visit takes place on the occasion of Vietnam and the US celebrating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership. On this occasion, the two sides agreed to upgrade the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The US news agency AP quoted President Biden as saying that his visit shows the increasingly close relationship between the US and Vietnam, and is part of an effort to bring global stability through building US relationships with partners across Asia. According to AP , the agreement between Vietnam and the US to upgrade the relationship shows the level of progress in the bilateral relationship. Japan's NHK news agency quoted President Joe Biden's statement at a joint press conference with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on the evening of September 10 that this upgrade opens a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries.

Meanwhile, CNN news agency commented: "The upgrade of Vietnam-US relations is of great significance. The two countries have gone from former enemies to increasingly close partners." The New York Times quoted President Joe Biden's statement at a joint press conference with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong: "Today we can look back on the journey of relations between the two countries, from conflict to normalization, and upgrading that relationship to a new level will be a driving force for prosperity and security in one of the most important regions in the world." The head of the US government also emphasized: "This is an extremely important step for both countries because it demonstrates the strength of the relationship itself as we face challenges that have a huge impact on the future of the region and the world." British news agency Reuters quoted President Biden's statement: "Upgrading the relationship "shows to our Indo-Pacific partners as well as to the world that the United States is a Pacific nation and we are not going anywhere."
