Looking back at 2023, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia praised and highly appreciated the "extremely positive and remarkable" contributions of the press to the very important and comprehensive common success in many fields of the country. Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized: 2024 is a very important year in implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and towards the 14th National Party Congress; the year to celebrate many important events of the country, especially the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu victory, complete amendments and supplements to the Press Law, and review 5 years of implementing the Government's Press Planning. At the same time, it is necessary to prepare well for important milestone events of historical significance for the country in 2025 such as the 95th anniversary of the Party's founding, the 80th anniversary of the country's founding, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, the year of organizing Party Congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Congress of the Party, and the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day. Therefore, press agencies are required to focus on promoting the implementation of socio-economic development tasks in 2024; urgently develop plans and actively and creatively implement the dissemination of resolutions, conclusions, directives and policies of the Central Committee, the National Assembly and the Government; closely follow the breath of life to reflect, contribute ideas, create and spread good and humane values in society; bring policies and laws into life to meet the expectations of all people.
Press agencies must have high determination to build a professional, humane and modern press in the new situation; so that each press agency is a decent press agency, respected by the whole society, the Head of the Central Propaganda Department emphasized. To overcome difficulties and fulfill all tasks well, journalists must have a deeper understanding of the role, position, function and tasks of revolutionary journalism; constantly cultivate and improve political mettle, professional ethics and professional qualifications.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang said that the press needs to support businesses to overcome difficulties, ease the pain of everyone, spread good models, and at the same time deter illegal acts caused by extreme difficulties.
Sharing the difficulties and challenges of press agencies, notably the unprecedented decline in advertising revenue, increasingly fierce competition with social networking platforms, while having to make efforts to keep up with trends, especially the rapid development of science and technology..., Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang said that press agencies must bravely face difficulties and challenges, not avoid them; must have new ways of doing things, new ways of thinking to have new products that are more attractive and competitive.
Besides, press agencies must manage their products and staff well to protect their reputation as official information and communication agencies, representing the Party and State, while avoiding the risk of losing staff due to making a living by violating professional ethics and the law.
