China's Xinhua News Agency reported that the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China sent a message of condolences to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, expressing condolences over the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The website of the U.S. Embassy and Consulate General in Vietnam posted a statement by U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper on the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The statement reads: “With the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, we are saddened by the loss of a visionary leader who has served as a bridge between Vietnam and the United States and the entire international community for decades… The United States appreciates the General Secretary’s efforts to take our bilateral relations to new heights.”
In the article titled “The life, career and greatest legacy of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong” published on Sputnik news agency (Russia), there is a paragraph: “General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, an outstanding politician of Vietnam, a loyal communist soldier, devoted his whole life and career to the country and the people, loved both at home and abroad. With 80 years of age but nearly 57 years of Party membership, 14 years of leading the Communist Party of Vietnam as General Secretary, more than 2 years as President and 5 years as Chairman of the National Assembly, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong is always concerned and devoted to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, and to the Party's anti-corruption campaign”.
Meanwhile, the New York Times (USA) mentioned the image of an honest leader when talking about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The achievements of the General Secretary in various fields were also mentioned by the American newspaper. In terms of economy, the New York Times said that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has led one of the fastest growing economies in Asia and raised Vietnam's prestige in the international arena.
Summarizing the career of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, The Nation (Thailand) newspaper emphasized the General Secretary's anti-corruption stance, considering this problem a serious threat to the Party's prestige, position, leadership and ruling role.
