On the occasion of the 98th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2023), Nguoi Dua Tin (NDT) listened to the sharing from National Assembly deputies who are local leaders and full-time National Assembly deputies on the work of information and communication of press policies, and the role of the press towards the public over the past time.
Play an important role in policy communication
Assessing press activities, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Yen Bai Province Do Duc Duy said that Yen Bai has a project approved by the Provincial People's Council on disseminating and educating the law. Especially for farmers, ethnic minorities, and vulnerable groups. Focusing on legal policies that have a direct, widespread and regular impact on the people.
Every year, on the basis of that project, the province organizes implementation. In addition to implementing propaganda according to the project, there are also many solutions to strengthen information, propaganda and policy communication.

Assessing the role of the press in policy communication, Mr. Do Duc Duy emphasized: “The press is a channel for accurate communication. For provincial press agencies, representative offices, and resident reporters of central press agencies located in the area, we regularly organize meetings with press agencies to provide communication plans for the whole year.
In addition, the organization provides information to the press quarterly, including newly issued policy mechanisms or policy projects developed and implemented in the province.
Mr. Duy said that on the one hand, the press conveys the ideas, the major and important contents and regulations of those policy institutions. At the same time, press agencies also need to increase their depth and closeness to the grassroots to learn and reflect on the implementation of policies at the local level, especially the difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process.
“This is also a very important channel to support competent State agencies to promptly grasp the implementation of policies at the local and grassroots levels and the difficulties, problems and obstacles that need to be focused on to resolve so that policies can be put into practice and be most effective. It can be affirmed that the role of the press in communicating policies is extremely important,” the Secretary of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee emphasized the role of the press.
Fight to detect and prevent negative corruption
Talking to Nguoi Dua Tin about the role of the press, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Dong Nai Province Quan Minh Cuong emphasized that the role of the press is extremely important in social life. The press contributes to propagating policies, orienting public opinion, popularizing good people and good deeds, fighting and refuting false and distorted arguments... Especially in implementing the Party's policies and the State's laws.

“Most press agencies have permanent offices located in Dong Nai province. The press agencies have done a good job of in-depth reporting, reflecting daily life, contributing to policy criticism, and solving difficulties. They have accompanied Party committees and authorities at all levels to participate in solving pressing social issues.
Along with that, in the current period, the press has actively participated in the fight to detect and prevent negative corruption at the grassroots level. Many cases were not detected by the authorities, but thanks to the press, they were discovered. From there, many bad behaviors and negative corruption have been fought and prevented.
Also discussing, National Assembly Deputy Tran Anh Tuan - Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Business Management Innovation Committee (Ho Chi Minh City delegation) assessed that the press activities in recent times have been very active, comprehensive, and detailed in each activity of departments, branches, and sectors.
“I noticed that at regular press conferences, reporters asked questions about the socio-economic situation and leaders of departments and branches answered very frankly and publicly about the achievements in the management of each department and branch. Including complaints, denunciations, and security and order in the area. The questions raised by reporters and the press were all very current issues, close to reality. It can be seen that the press information work has been close to life, close to the practical situation of localities and departments, accurately and honestly reflecting the current aspirations of people and businesses,” said Mr. Tran Anh Tuan.
As a bridge between the National Assembly and voters
National Assembly Deputy Trinh Xuan An (Dong Nai delegation) said that without the press and media, the National Assembly would lose a method to quickly access decisions and disseminate the decisions of the National Assembly to society and the people. "It is difficult to imagine the National Assembly operating without the press," Mr. An said.
According to Mr. An, reporting from the parliament also sets a task for the press: it must be fast, accurate, timely, objective, and honest. In particular, it must emphasize the decisions of the National Assembly. From the decisions through the "press of a button" of the delegates, thanks to the press, it becomes a greater force, bringing the policies and wishes of the highest State authority to develop society.
“The press is both a means and a driving force for the National Assembly to become more open, transparent, and closer to the people and voters,” Mr. An emphasized.
In addition, the Dong Nai delegation also said that it is necessary to objectively assess the information competition between the press and social networks. Therefore, the press needs to innovate and be creative.

Regarding the communication work on the draft Law on Land (amended), according to the delegate, this is a draft Law that receives the attention of the people. However, it cannot be simply communicated but must have a systematic communication strategy. Inform the right audience, the right information that people are interested in.
“I think the way the press should do it is to go straight to the point and see how society interacts with the issue. Some newspapers have a very good format, which is to have a ‘voting’ section,” Mr. An added.
As a colleague and expert who regularly works with the press, National Assembly Deputy Nguyen Anh Tri (Hanoi delegation) affirmed that the role of the press in participating in parliamentary activities is extremely important.
“The press follows all issues related to the Law, important decisions of the country, even issues related to personnel and organization, etc. very closely, creating consensus in society. The press contributes to providing delegates with accurate and updated information, as a basis for discussion and from there delegates make final decisions,” Mr. Tri stated.

According to the Hanoi delegation, in the era of technology 4.0 with the strong explosion of platforms and social networks, the press plays an increasingly important role, contributing to orienting, verifying, providing accurate, honest, and objective information and contributing to the fight against corruption.
However, he also noted that in the information explosion period, the press needs to be extremely alert, selective in information, and journalists also need to write articles responsibly.
“I hope that journalists must have a very bright mind to “filter out and select” to promote the good and eliminate the bad so that the press can increasingly become a sharp weapon on the ideological and cultural front,” delegate Tri emphasized.
New policies of the Tax industry are accurately reflected
Mr. Mai Son - Director of Hanoi Tax Department: " The press plays a very important role in social life, not only reflecting social life through the fastest and most authentic information about events but also orienting information to the public.
With the development of information technology, in recent years, multimedia journalism has developed strongly, helping the public access information through printed newspapers, electronic newspapers, radio, television from a newspaper office; experience many creative forms through content, images, videos, graphics, audio in a press product. Through the press, the whole society has felt, shared the difficulties with the tax authorities and agreed with the issued tax policies and guidelines.
Mr. Mai Son.
Over the years, the Capital Tax Department has always successfully completed the tasks of collecting the State budget, reforming administrative procedures, supporting businesses... To achieve these results, there is a great contribution from the team of reporters and editors of press agencies."
Mr. Son said that through the press, the new policies of the Tax sector have been accurately, vividly, fully and promptly reflected. Notably, over the past two years, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, businesses and taxpayers have encountered many difficulties. The press has published many timely news and articles conveying new information on tax, fee and charge support policies and mechanisms, creating a positive impact on the community, thereby contributing to removing difficulties and obstacles, helping businesses and taxpayers recover and develop after the pandemic."
Need to make an effort to overcome challenges
National Assembly Deputy Pham Khanh Phong Lan (HCMC delegation) highly appreciated the press activities at the National Assembly sessions. Through each session, the female delegate realized that each journalist, reporter, and editor of each press agency participating in the session demonstrated responsibility and conveyed correctly and fully the ideas expressed by the delegates.
“Writing and presenting news about the parliament is very difficult, so it requires each journalist to make more efforts to overcome difficult challenges. Basically, I see that the quality of press information published from the session is increasingly improved, journalists have conveyed well the issues that delegates speak. The press contributes greatly to conveying messages from the parliament to the general public,” said delegate Phong Lan .
