On August 31, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) organized the Workshop "Mass media with activities of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations Vietnam".
In his opening speech, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh, Vice President of the Union of Associations, said that after more than 40 years of construction and development, VUSTA has formed a 2-level organizational system in accordance with the spirit of Directive No. 42-CT/TW dated April 16, 2010 of the 10th Politburo.
Up to now, the Union has become a large socio-political organization in both scale and quality. The Union has proactively proposed and advised the Party and State on many major issues in science and technology, education and training, and policies for intellectuals.
Mr. Pham Ngoc Linh said that the Union has created a favorable environment to carry out intellectual mobilization work through the implementation of professional and vocational tasks.
Specifically, communication activities, dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge; consulting, criticism and social appraisal activities; scientific research activities, technology development, environmental protection; activities to honor intellectuals, encourage and promote the movement of scientific and technological innovation; international cooperation activities, participation in regional multilateral forums...
Currently, the Press System of the Association has 70 press agencies. However, according to the Vice President of the Association, although the number of press agencies is large, the transmission of information about the Association is still not really effective and has not promoted its inherent strengths.
Besides, the Union has not yet effectively used mass media to reach large audiences, nor proposed solutions to bring the Union's image closer to the public.
Therefore, Mr. Pham Ngoc Linh said that in the coming time, there needs to be a solution for the press and media to participate and accompany the Union of Associations to build and widely and effectively promote the image and activities of the Union of Associations to the public and all classes of people.
Content is king, technology is queen
Regarding the issue of social media, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi, Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Editor-in-Chief of the Economic and Urban Newspaper, said that social media is based on online services, news can be exchanged between two or more individuals and spread rapidly in virtual space.
From a content perspective, the nature of social media is an equal personal connection in the process of connecting and transmitting news. This is a clear difference between social media and traditional media - where professional press agencies play the role of the nucleus connecting the media and reporting news.
In political communication, social media has created a new game that forces management agencies to change their perception, to both guide public opinion and retain their audience.
According to Mr. Loi, with the ability to report, share, attract, and search for information quickly, in this regard, social media has an advantage over traditional press. However, the press still has a solid and important position in the current open information "battlefield". To do so, it is necessary to maintain quality, consider content as "king", and technology as "queen". At the same time, combine the advantages that social media brings, to strengthen the power and value of traditional press.
In addition, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi emphasized that social media is a reference source, a tool for collecting and evaluating information. In the development of modern journalism, the use and integration of social media into political communication activities and brand promotion for organizations is one of the trends that cannot be ignored.
Sharing at the workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thi An, Director of the Institute of Environmental Resources and Community Development (IRECO), said that in recent times, the press agencies of the Federation of Associations have brought the policies of the Party and Government, as well as diverse and necessary scientific knowledge to the community. In addition, the Federation of Associations' press is also a bridge between scientists and intellectuals to management levels, the Government, the National Assembly, etc.
From there, management agencies research and consult to adjust practical shortcomings, create more consensus among the people, reduce waste for the State; contribute to affirming the position and image of the Association.
