The press needs to promote digital transformation for sustainable development

DNVN – From the experience of applying digital transformation to create high-quality press works, there needs to be stronger solutions in digital transformation of press, developing diverse products in the press ecosystem, creating conditions for sustainable development.

On December 6, in Can Tho city, the conference "High-quality journalism in the context of digital transformation to meet the new requirements of the national press award regulations and promote the task of sustainable development in the Southern region" was held by the Vietnam Journalists Association.

The conference aims to introduce and share new points of the revised National Press Awards regulations in 2024; experiences in applying digital transformation to create high-quality press works. From there, propose stronger solutions in digital transformation of press, develop diverse press products in the press ecosystem, create conditions for sustainable press development.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi said that on March 29, 2007, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 369/QD-TTg approving the National Press Awards Project, assigning the Vietnam Journalists Association as the agency in charge of implementation, and at the same time assigned the task of implementing the Program to support high-quality journalism at the central and local levels for the period 2021 - 2025.

After nearly 4 years of implementation, the Program to support high-quality press works at all levels of the Journalists Association has achieved many outstanding results. In 3 years (2021 - 2023), the state budget has supported high-quality press works at the Central level with 11.6 billion VND, thereby supporting nearly 4,000 authors and receiving 3,875 high-quality works of various types of press.

The Vietnam Journalists Association has organized conferences and seminars on journalism to help press agencies improve the quality of their work; supported research, compilation, and publication of books to announce, promote, and archive high-quality journalistic works.

For local press, in 3 years (2021-2023), the state budget support for local Journalists Associations nationwide is 27.7 billion VND. Local Journalists Associations directly support more than 4,000 authors who are members of the Vietnam Journalists Association, receiving 4,263 high-quality works in various types of journalism. Many high-quality journalism works have won the National Press Award and the Press Awards of localities, ministries, branches, and organizations.

“From this year, the National Press Awards regulations have many new points, especially two new award groups: Multimedia Press Awards and Creative Press Awards. The addition is consistent with the reality and general development trend of the press and media”, informed the Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association.

Speaking at the conference, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu said that in recent years, the 4th industrial revolution has opened up many new opportunities for the industry, including the press and media industry. The rapid changes in science and technology, especially the influence of digital transformation, have changed the whole, including methods, ways of working, organizational models, creative activities to create press works based on a convergent, multi-platform, multimedia model...

The Prime Minister has approved the strategy for digital transformation of the press in 2025-2030, with the goal of building a press agency in the direction of "professionalism, humanity, modernity", fulfilling the mission of propaganda, serving the revolutionary cause of the Party, the innovation of the country, ensuring the role of leading and orienting public opinion.

“The Can Tho City Party Committee always creates conditions for the city's press to develop. The team of journalists in the city is constantly growing and developing, actively propagating the Party's policies and guidelines, the State's laws, and arousing the city's aspiration to develop together with the country. In the field of digital transformation, Can Tho's press develops in line with trends and technology, while closely combining many types and means, increasing coverage, and meeting general propaganda requirements," said the Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee.

Also related to the content of digital transformation of journalism, journalist Le Minh Trung - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre Newspaper said that multimedia journalism opens up unlimited creative space for journalists and press agencies to express journalism topics in many languages, many forms on many platforms.

High-quality multimedia journalism needs to promote the strengths of “3 multi + 3 transmission”: “3 multi” is multi-language, multi-format and multi-platform and “3 transmission” is timely and accurate information transmission; clear message transmission; inspiration to motivate the public.

According to journalist Le Minh Trung, high-quality multimedia journalism must have a worthy topic such as current events; be of interest to many people; be new, unique, and attractive; must be impressively presented, carefully invested, carefully cared for, and bring about positive social effects.
