UN Special Rapporteur works in Ha Tinh

The United Nations Special Rapporteur was informed about business activities and the lives and treatment of workers and laborers in the Vung Ang Economic Zone (Ha Tinh).

On the morning of November 9, Mr. Surya Deva - United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to development and his delegation visited Vung Ang Economic Zone (Ky Anh Town). Accompanying them were Ms. Antoanela Pavlova - staff of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of relevant departments and agencies of Ha Tinh province.

Mr. Surya Deva - United Nations Special Rapporteur and the delegation visited Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation (FHS) and VINES Battery Factory.

During the visit, the delegation was fully informed and reported on the business operations of the enterprises.

The delegation visited the ecological park of FHS Company.

Accordingly, in the first 9 months of 2023, FHS steel billet output reached 4,289.6 thousand tons; finished steel products reached 3,412.9 thousand tons (including: 2,884.1 thousand tons of coil steel; 528.8 thousand tons of wire steel); electricity output reached 2,954 million kWh.

Net revenue from industrial production activities in the first 9 months of 2023 reached 3.072 billion USD; taxes and payments to the state budget are estimated at 5,901 billion VND; import-export activities reached 3,899 million USD, of which import turnover reached 1,935 million USD; export turnover reached 1,964 million USD. Currently, the enterprise creates jobs for 11,319 people.

The delegation visited the workers' family dormitory housing area.

VINES Battery Factory belongs to VINES Ha Tinh Energy Solutions Joint Stock Company. The project was approved for investment in October 2021, with a total registered investment capital of VND 3,800 billion. To date, the project has completed the installation and testing of the production line and is currently carrying out the project completion acceptance procedures at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The factory uses advanced technology according to American and European standards, with over 80% automation, and is the most modern battery factory in Vietnam, with a capacity of 100,000 battery packs/year.

During the visit, the UN Special Rapporteur and the working delegation also expressed their interest and were informed and fully answered by relevant units about the environmental treatment process; life, and treatment of workers and laborers... at enterprises in the Vung Ang Economic Zone.
