Since childhood, Dao Anh Tuan (born 1998, Hung Yen) has had a special love for the medical profession. He has always been determined to wear a white coat.

In 2016, after graduating from Trung Vuong High School, Tuan passed the entrance exam to the Military Medical Academy with 26.25 points in block B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology).

According to regulations, the medical training program will take more than 6 years, but Tuan's course had to be extended to nearly 7 years due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. When the pandemic spread across the country, he and his friends had to temporarily put their studies on hold to volunteer to support and fight the pandemic on the front lines.

In early October 2023, Anh Tuan was one of 96 valedictorians honored by Hanoi.

Although he longed to achieve his dream of becoming a doctor, many times this male student from Hung Yen felt tired, pressured, and "there were moments when he thought he was about to give up".

Recalling the early days of university, the highly disciplined military environment, strict time and living regime always made Tuan feel suffocated. Combined with the large amount of medical knowledge, the "newbie" student was even more stressed and tired.

"It took me a few months to get used to and change my lifestyle. Gradually, I realized that this time constraint was the most scientific arrangement. Thanks to that, I always balance my study schedule in the classroom and clinical time in the hospital, as well as physical and military training," Tuan confided.

In addition, what helped the young student overcome it was the encouragement of his family and the close affection of teachers and friends under the roof of the Military Medical Academy.

Regarding studying, right from entering school, Tuan clearly determined the goal of becoming a good doctor, helping many people and completing all the tasks assigned by the Party and State.

Before each subject, Tuan always researches and asks his teachers and seniors about the goals he needs to achieve and the methods to study that subject well. He applies this method in all subjects.

In addition, the new valedictorian of the Military Medical Academy also believes that to achieve high results, it is necessary to balance between studying, physical training and living according to school regulations. That is why determining a strong mindset to overcome initial difficulties is the prerequisite for students to be able to complete their study and training tasks.

In 2018, while a second-year student, Dao Anh Tuan was honored to become a Party member and one of the youngest Party members of the Military Medical Academy Party Committee at that time.

Continuing his success, in 2019, he won the first prize in scientific research at the Academy level and the second prize in scientific research at the national level. Also in that year, he received the IBS scholarship and the Vallet scholarship for students with excellent academic achievements.

In addition to the title of Emulation Fighter of the whole army, this young man is also one of the few students of the Military Medical Academy to receive twice a certificate of merit from the Minister of National Defense for his achievements in studying and training.

In addition to his impressive academic achievements, Tuan is also very active in participating in movement and extracurricular activities. Among them, participating in the COVID-19 epidemic prevention work in Ho Chi Minh City during the peak days is the most memorable memory of the male student during his university years.

While on duty at the field hospital, he suddenly received a phone call from a woman about to give birth asking for help. Although he was only in his fourth year of study and had no knowledge or skills in obstetrics, Tuan still "dared to decide" with his friend to go and assist the woman "at the moment of life and death".

"My classmate and I delivered the baby while calling the teacher for instructions on each step. Luckily, the delivery went smoothly and both mother and child were safe," the male student recalled. The baby's cry and the mother's smiling eyes were a source of joy and happiness in the midst of the epidemic in Ho Chi Minh City at that time.

This memory not only brings Tuan maturity and practical clinical skills but also a great lesson in perseverance and devotion to patients.

Currently, Tuan continues to study burn surgery residency at Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital - Military Medical Academy for 3 years.

Regarding the future, the male valedictorian shared: “As a military doctor, I always keep in mind to be ready for any task assigned by the organization. No matter where I work, I will always try my best to help as many people as possible to be worthy of the training and the uniform on my body.”
