Previously, Tuyen Hoa Forest Protection Department received a male pig-tailed macaque weighing 6kg voluntarily handed over by Mr. Phan Van Ngoc, in Tam Da village, Son Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa). According to Mr. Ngoc, he bought this macaque to raise. However, after investigating, he realized that keeping wild animals in captivity is a violation of the law, so he voluntarily handed it over to the authorities.
At the time of handover, the pig-tailed macaque had an injury to its right hind leg, causing a loss of wild behavior. After receiving it, the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Creatures will monitor, care for and train it to recover its wild behavior before releasing it back into the wild.
The pig-tailed macaque, scientifically named Macaca leonina, is an endangered and rare wild animal belonging to group IIB as regulated in Decree 84/2021/ND-CP, dated September 22, 2021 of the Government.
