The Ethnic Council of the Provincial People's Council held a meeting to review documents submitted at the 31st session (special session) of the Soc Trang Provincial People's Council.

At the meeting, the Ethnic Council of the Provincial People's Council and leaders of relevant departments and branches reviewed the proposal of the Provincial People's Committee on the allocation of the local budget development investment capital plan for 2025 (phase 2) to implement the National Target Program on socio -economic development in ethnic minority areas in Soc Trang province, according to Resolution No. 140/NQ-HDND, dated December 6, 2024 of the Soc Trang Provincial People's Council, assigning the 2025 plan for counterpart capital to implement the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas for the period 2021 - 2030, phase I (2021 - 2025) is over 11.7 billion VND. Of which, the allocation (phase 1) in Resolution No. 143/NQ-HDND, dated December 6, 2024 of the Provincial People's Council is over 1 billion VND; Eligible for allocation in 2025 (phase 2) to implement the National Target Program on socio-economic development for ethnic minority areas in the province is over 2.8 billion VND; not eligible for allocation is over 7.8 billion VND.

The meeting also passed a Resolution on the allocation of the local budget development investment plan for 2025 (phase 2) to implement the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities in Soc Trang Province, with a total budget of over 2.8 billion VND. In order to implement Project 6 - Preserving and promoting the fine traditional culture of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development, including sub-projects such as supporting investment in building typical destinations; supporting investment in preserving typical traditional cultural hamlets and villages of ethnic minorities; supporting the restoration, embellishment, and prevention of degradation of special national monuments and national monuments of typical value of ethnic minorities; supporting investment in cultural and sports institutions, etc.

At the meeting, delegates basically agreed with the content of the report and resolution. The projects, once completed, will make an important contribution to economic restructuring, changing the face of ethnic minority areas, creating momentum for socio-economic development, and improving people's quality of life.

Speaking at the meeting, comrade Ly Rotha emphasized that the progress of capital allocation to implement the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority Areas is currently quite slow compared to the plan. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council requested the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions to proactively coordinate with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to complete all procedures and conditions for allocation, allocate capital early to ensure the progress of implementation and full use of capital; it is necessary to study and carefully check the documents guiding the appropriate use of capital, speed up the progress and allocate the remaining capital.
