The Department of Disease Prevention ( Ministry of Health ) has just issued a quick report on information about cases of unknown causes of illness in the Russian Federation.
According to the Department of Disease Prevention, in recent days, the event-based surveillance system has recorded information from press and social media channels about cases of unexplained illness in humans in the Russian Federation.
Some cases of the disease in the Russian Federation have been identified as caused by Mycoplasma infection (illustrative photo).
Accordingly, on March 31, a number of foreign electronic information sites reported cases of unknown illness in humans in the Russian Federation.
Initially, patients showed symptoms such as fatigue, body aches, and weakness similar to common seasonal illnesses. However, after a few days (3-4 days), symptoms of high fever (39 degrees Celsius), severe cough with tears and bloody sputum appeared, and fatigue forced them to stay in bed. Many patients tested negative for COVID-19 and influenza. The new pathogen has not been identified in these patients.
After receiving the above information, the Department of Disease Prevention has contacted the World Health Organization in Vietnam to verify and clarify the information. Up to now, according to initial information from the Focal Point for the implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR) of the World Health Organization in the European region, some cases of the disease have been identified as caused by Mycoplasma infection. The World Health Organization is contacting the health agency in the Russian Federation to clarify further information.
The Department of Disease Prevention will continue to closely monitor the developments of the epidemic situation; closely coordinate with the World Health Organization, the focal point for implementing IHR of the Russian Federation to update information and proactively provide and share complete and accurate information, not to cause panic and anxiety but at the same time not to be subjective or negligent in the face of developments of the epidemic situation, especially in the current transitional season with favorable weather conditions for respiratory pathogens to spread.
Mycoplasma bacteria cause respiratory infections that damage the respiratory tract mucosa (including the throat, trachea and lungs); the disease is transmitted from person to person through small droplets containing bacteria from coughing and sneezing; the disease can be treated with antibiotics.
In Vietnam, there have been many cases of children hospitalized due to pneumonia, including many children with Mycoplasma pneumonia with atypical symptoms, easily confused with the common cold. If not diagnosed correctly and treated promptly, the disease will become serious, leading to respiratory failure and endangering the child's life.
