Acupressure to control diarrhea
Physician Hoang Duy Tan, former vice president of Dong Nai Oriental Medicine Association, said there are a number of causes of diarrhea including infectious bacteria such as parasites, nerve, and diarrhea-causing bacteria, but most are caused by poor digestion.
Foods that are difficult to digest can cause intestinal disorders, irritate the intestinal lining or cause enteritis, leading to diarrhea. After storms and floods, polluted environments can easily cause diarrhea.
To treat diarrhea, whether it is due to poor digestion or nervousness, it is only necessary to restore normal intestinal motility.
The most effective method is to press the dysentery point with your finger . When you feel in danger, immediately press this point with your finger and keep massaging. If the diarrhea is severe due to drinking alcohol, using this method can also feel comfortable.
In addition to the Xia Li point, there are also colon points related to the activity of the large intestine and acupoints connected to the small intestine, all of which are effective in treating diarrhea.
The Sanchi acupuncture point also has a therapeutic effect on preventing diarrhea. Regular massage of this area can promote the peristalsis of the large intestine and improve absorption.
Diarrhea is a disease that requires immediate excretion. When there are warning signs of diarrhea, while you can still hold it in, you must quickly stimulate the dysentery point to stop the diarrhea. Pressing the dysentery point will cure even if you are about to have diarrhea.
In case of chronic diarrhea, use the lower dysentery point, add the large intestine point and kidney point continuously for 2-3 days to have a chance to return to normal state.
To treat early morning diarrhea, add the Mingmen point.
Sometimes drinking too much alcohol also causes diarrhea, stimulating the three points of the lower dysentery, large intestine and kidney will definitely cure this symptom, helping bowel movements return to normal.

Simple herbal remedies for diarrhea
According to physician Hoang Duy Tan, in addition to the effects of acupuncture points, simple herbs can be used for treatment, including:
- Sim leaves : 20-30 buds and young sim leaves per day in the form of decoction. Some places also use sim buds combined with guava buds (or guava peel), galangal to treat diarrhea very effectively. Or sim buds (harvested before blooming), dosage is about half a cup to drink.
- Guava leaves: Take a handful of guava buds, chew with a few grains of salt and swallow the residue. Or young guava leaves (guava buds, guava shoots) with hairs still on them, men use 7 leaves, women use 9 leaves, chew with a little salt and swallow, after 15 minutes the diarrhea will stop.
- Lotus seed porridge : Grind lotus seeds into fine powder, use 15g each time, add 30g glutinous rice, a little brown sugar, cook into thick porridge. When hungry, eat porridge in the morning and evening. Or dry lychee without shell and seeds, 50g, Chinese yam, lotus seeds, each 20g.
Crush, cook until soft, add rice to cook porridge, eat every morning and evening. People with chronic diarrhea can use it.

- Tea leaves : equal amounts of dried tea and roasted rice, boiled with 3 slices of fresh ginger, divided into several doses to drink during the day. Drink while the medicine is still warm.
- Mangosteen : Use mangosteen peel to boil with concentrated water to drink.
- Lemongrass and ginger : Take 5 slices of ginger, 6g of perilla, lemongrass (fried until golden), tangerine peel (fried until fragrant) each 20g. Pour in 2 bowls of water (rice bowl size) and fry until there is only 1 bowl left, drink while still hot. Treats diarrhea caused by cold wind.
- Tangerine peel : 16g tangerine peel, 16g dried ginger, 100g burnt old rice, boil until thick, divide into portions and drink gradually.
- Plantain : Treats diarrhea caused by damp heat: when you have a stomachache, you have to go to the bathroom immediately, the stool is yellow, has a foul odor, you urinate little and the urine is red, you are very thirsty, and your tongue has a yellow coating. This disease often occurs in summer and autumn.
Take 20g of plantain leaves and flowers, 40g of pineapple shoots, and take the white part of the young leaves of the pineapple plant. Wash everything, crush it, and add a little salt. Pour 1 bowl of boiling water into the mixture, let it sit for about half an hour, then filter the water and drink.
Note: In any case, people with frequent diarrhea must still use adequate rehydration measures to avoid dangerous dehydration, especially for children. A harmful misconception of some adults is that when they see children with diarrhea, they abstain from giving them water, because they are afraid that drinking water will make the diarrhea worse.
Rehydration solution with Oresol, Hydrite packets or tablets, is sold at pharmacies, you can buy a few packets to have at home. When needed, take the medicine, mix it with boiled water (according to the prescription) and every time you have diarrhea or vomit, give a glass (small - large depending on age)...
If you don't have an Oresol packet or Hydrite tablet, you can temporarily use thin rice water mixed with a little salt, or a sugar + salt solution mixed in the ratio: 8 teaspoons (equal) of granulated sugar + 1 teaspoon (equal) of salt, mixed with 1 liter of water, and drink until diarrhea stops.
In most cases of normal diarrhea, adequate hydration is all that is needed to keep the body from being upset and to regulate itself. In a few days, the diarrhea can go away without the need for medication.
In case of prolonged diarrhea, bloody stools, phlegm; or accompanied by severe vomiting, especially in children, the patient should be taken to a medical facility for timely treatment.
