At noon on September 2, at the construction site of Xang Lai Hieu bridge, part of package 2 of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project, dozens of workers were "in the sun", taking advantage of favorable weather, focusing on processing steel molds to pour concrete for bridge piers and piers.

During the long holiday, everyone wants to be with their families. However, knowing that the progress of the project is urgent, the workers encourage each other to stay on site, working day and night.

It should be said that the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway has a total length of more than 188km passing through 4 provinces and cities: An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang and Soc Trang. The total investment is more than 44,691 billion VND.

This is one of two key expressway projects being implemented in the Mekong Delta. The project is divided into four component projects and assigned to An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang and Soc Trang, where the localities where the project passes through will implement it independently.

Of which, component project 3 has a length of nearly 37km, and was assigned by the People's Committee of Hau Giang province to the Department of Transport of this province as the investor. The total investment is about 9,927 billion VND.

The project started in June 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2027. Although the finish date is still quite a long way off, at this time, the construction contractors are determined to race to meet the schedule. During the four-day National Day holiday on September 2, the work rhythm at the construction site was maintained.

"I have also worked with contractors on many projects. With this kind of pressure on progress, everyone agrees to stay behind to work and ensure the progress of the project. If I can't come back during this holiday, I will try to come home later. It's not a problem," said mechanic Nguyen Van Hung (residing in Quang Nam province).

Overcoming difficulties, racing for progress

With no vacations or family visits, the workers remain at the construction site.

Mr. Phan Duong, Director of the Executive Board of Package No. 2, under Trung Nam E&C Construction and Installation Joint Stock Company (Trung Nam E&C), said that Package No. 2 will start construction at the end of November 2023, 5 months later than Package No. 1.

The contractor has deployed 15 construction teams with about 60 production teams to construct 16km of public roads and 12 bridges undertaken by the unit.

Night shift work.

"Regarding the main route, Trung Nam E&C is constructing a length of nearly 18km. Currently, while waiting for Ben Tre to resolve procedures for granting sand mines to serve the construction of the main route, the contractor has also proactively sought to purchase commercial sand sources to construct public roads.

At the same time, coordinate with local authorities to resolve difficulties and obstacles in site clearance and handover of site at bridge locations to construction contractors.

The progress of the package has reached about 12%, the plan is to complete the girder installation of 12 bridges on the route and 16km of public roads in 2024. To ensure the set target, the contractor has deployed construction throughout the holiday, increasing three shifts, four shifts," Mr. Duong informed.

Mr. Dong Van Thanh, Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee visited and presented gifts to construction workers of component project 3 on September 1.

According to the Hau Giang Province Department of Transport, component project 3 has two construction packages. Up to now, the construction output has reached 19.46% of the contract value, 9% behind schedule.

In the construction package No. 1, contractors deployed 30 construction teams with more than 100 production teams, simultaneously deploying all bridges on the route such as Xa No, overpasses on national highways 61C and 61. After receiving support from An Giang province for sand mines, contractors focused on constructing 5.5 km of the main route.

To ensure the project's progress, the investor has directed contractors to plan construction throughout the National Day holiday on September 2.

On September 1, Mr. Dong Van Thanh, Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee, led a working delegation to visit engineers and workers working at component project 3.
Here, the Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and commended the efforts and responsibility of contractors, construction units, supervision consultants... even though it was a holiday, everyone still stayed at the construction site to work.
