Students in Hanoi are anxiously awaiting the results of their 10th grade entrance exams.

Previously, immediately after the candidates completed their exams, all exam papers were handed over to the grading committee and the invigilators in accordance with regulations and with guaranteed security.

According to the plan, the grading committee for both essay and multiple-choice exams will conduct grading from now until June 23rd. As per regulations, during the grading period, the head of the grading committee must report the grading results to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training by 5 PM each day.

Previously, on April 13th, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the official answer keys for the entrance exams to non-specialized high schools. This served as a basis for candidates to make a preliminary prediction of their exam results.

For the Literature exam, this year's test drew attention to the social commentary section. Many teachers commented that although the exam followed a familiar structure, there was a "bright spot" in the social commentary section, which provided ample room for students to freely express their personal opinions on the question: "Is it selfish if we don't live to meet the expectations of others?"

This question is also considered highly effective because: "The line between an independent, self-reliant way of life and a selfish, indifferent way of life is always very thin - that is the space for candidates with sharp thinking, rich social understanding, and especially a kind heart to express their own views, without being influenced or following trends…!"

In the official "answer key" from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training for this section, candidates are encouraged to express their personal opinions but must provide convincing explanations based on standards of ethics and culture; and must make connections and draw lessons for themselves…

According to regulations, all exam paper storage rooms, multiple-choice exam grading rooms, and essay exam grading rooms must have 24/7 surveillance cameras to ensure coverage of all activities in the room; the camera system must not be connected to the internet and can only be connected via wired connection to the display screen (if any); a backup power supply must be in place to ensure continuous operation even in the event of a power outage...

Each essay exam is graded independently by two examiners, with several points to note: the first examiner only records the score on their individual grading sheet; the second examiner grades the exam paper, recording the score for each point and the total for each question in the margin of the exam paper; and simultaneously records the total score for each question on the grading sheet for the second examiner.

In addition to the two rounds of grading, the essay exam must also be checked by an independent body separate from those who participated in the two rounds of grading. The selection of papers for the check involves randomly choosing a number of graded papers. The check grader only records the score on their individual grading sheet, not on the candidate's exam paper...

In this year's 10th grade entrance exam, some localities experienced errors in the process of matching answer sheets and entering scores, leading to inaccurate results for candidates; the correct scores were only returned after a review of the grading process. Therefore, this is a crucial step that localities currently grading the 10th grade entrance exams, including Hanoi, are paying special attention to.

The entrance exam for 10th grade in non-specialized public high schools for the 2024-2025 school year took place on June 8th and 9th with over 105,000 candidates participating. Candidates took three exams: Literature, Foreign Language, and Mathematics.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training is expected to announce the exam results no later than July 2nd; and the cut-off scores for admission to 10th grade at each public high school will be announced between July 6th and 9th.
