According to local residents, the fire broke out on the afternoon of March 29 and is continuing to spread, engulfing the entire landfill, with the risk of spreading to the local people's production gardens and the natural forest next door.

The Gung Re landfill fire has seriously affected the lives of people in Hang Hai and Hang Lang villages.

Observations via flycam showed that the fire not only smoldered, but also spread, causing the smoke column to shoot tens of meters high. Here, the stench, burning smell, and dust covered the area, seriously affecting the lives of people in the two villages of Hang Hai and Hang Lang.

The Gung Re landfill fire caused a foul smell and smoke to spread within a radius of about 5 km.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet - Deputy Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Public Works of Di Linh District, said: Due to the overload of Gung Re landfill, it has stopped receiving household waste since March 1, 2025. Currently, household waste is being collected and gathered at the Di Linh Waste Treatment Plant in Lien Dam Commune.

“Given the widespread fire at the landfill, local authorities and relevant agencies are verifying and investigating the cause . As for the fire control work, due to the widespread and smoldering fire, there are many difficulties,” Ms. Nguyet informed.
