'Snow White' fails miserably at the box office, Disney postpones remake of 'Tangled'

Snow White directed by Marc Webb only grossed $146 million worldwide while its production budget was up to $270 million.

Tangled is based on the Grimm brothers' fairy tale Rapunzel , released in 2010. The new live-action remake will be directed by Michael Gracey from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

Before Snow White , Disney's recent remakes of The Lion King , Beauty and the Beast , and Aladdin all surpassed $1 billion in revenue each (both online and at the global box office).

Disney’s two live-action remakes could provide hope for the company. Lilo & Stitch , a remake of the beloved 2002 film, hits theaters on May 23. Next June, Disney fans will get to see a live-action version of Moana , a franchise that has been a streaming and box office success. Moana 2 grossed $1 billion since its release last November.
