Bac Tra My removes barriers to promote gender equality

“Leader of Change” is one of the four basic models of Project 8 “Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children” under the National Target Program (NTP) on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2030.

The model was established with the aim of eliminating gender stereotypes, changing thinking and working methods, preventing domestic violence, promptly grasping urgent issues related to women and children in schools, especially ethnic women in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

Mr. Nguyen Tran Thi - advisor and reporter of the "Leaders of Change" Club of Nguyen Hue Secondary School (Tra Giang Commune) said: "The school club has 26 members who have organized activities to raise awareness, promote the role and participation of children, especially girls, in communication activities to raise awareness of gender equality, build a safe environment for children to be protected, cared for, and develop comprehensively".

Student Nguyen Dang Phuong Dung was elected as the President of the "Leader of Change" Club of Nguyen Hue Secondary School. Together with her friends, she equipped herself with knowledge and skills to protect herself and solve problems related to herself.

They are also pioneers, active in propaganda, dissemination of information, calling for the participation of friends and parents in activities to promote gender equality and protect children.

Phuong Dung shared: “After each meeting, we have become more confident and bold, promoting our core role in propaganda, so that our friends can boldly speak up about the right to live safely, avoiding acts of violence, child marriage...”.

According to Ms. Ngo Pham Nhu Quynh - Vice President of the Women's Union of Bac Tra My district, thanks to the support from national target programs with practical projects, gender equality work has been directed and effectively implemented by Party committees and authorities at all levels.

Ms. Quynh said: “Reality shows that promoting gender equality and solving urgent problems for women and children is extremely important, affecting the socio-economic development process of ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

In order for the models to operate effectively and achieve the set goals, the Women's Union at all levels in the mountainous district of Bac Tra My, in coordination with the Department of Education and Training and secondary schools in the area, organized training courses, provided guidance on how to organize, operate and maintain the activities of the Club, organized exchanges, shared experiences, and created a healthy playground for the children.
