As for green mangoes. Dr Ranga Santosh Kumar, consultant general practitioner and diabetologist, Yashoda Hospital, Hyderabad (India), said: Green mangoes contain urushiol, which can irritate the mouth, throat and digestive system, especially if eaten in excess.

This substance is commonly found in mango peels. In rare cases, some people may even be allergic to eating peeled mangoes.

A medium sized mango will have about 150 calories. Therefore, people who want to lose weight should eat it in moderation.

Mangoes should be eaten as a snack between meals and avoided at dinner.

Avoid drinking water immediately after eating mango as it can cause bloating, acidity and stomach pain, according to Hindustan Times.
