On April 17, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen signed Official Dispatch No. 2310/BYT-ATTP to hospitals under the Ministry of Health ; Institutes under the Ministry of Health; Universities and Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy under the Ministry of Health; associations and unions related to food; Vietnam Medical Association on advertising food and functional foods.
The Ministry of Health said that currently, there is a situation where some doctors, pharmacists, and medical staff participate in advertising foods and functional foods, causing confusion for users.
In the official dispatch, the Ministry of Health stated: According to the provisions of Clause 2, Article 27 of Decree 15/2018/ND-CP dated February 2, 2018 of the Government detailing the implementation of a number of articles of the Law on Food Safety: "Do not use images, equipment, costumes, names, correspondence of medical units, facilities, doctors, pharmacists, medical staff, thank you letters from patients, articles of doctors, pharmacists, medical staff to advertise food" . Thus, any doctor, pharmacist, medical staff participating in advertising food, functional foods is violating the provisions of the law.
Implementing Directive No. 17/CT-TTg dated May 9, 2017 of the Prime Minister on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of state management and creating a strong change in food advertising activities, limiting excessive advertising, advertising without content assessment, providing false information about food products to consumers, the Ministry of Health requests units to notify all cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers (including workers of the unit who have retired) about the above situation.
In addition, the Ministry also requires units to review, inspect, and handle according to their authority or recommend competent authorities to handle violations if there are any and report the results to the Department of Food Safety, Ministry of Health.
