Dr. Poonam Desai, a doctor working in the US, in a speech to 23,000 followers on TikTok, shared 5 dietary secrets of the world's longest-lived people.

Dr. Poonam Desai also revealed that she personally tries to incorporate these tips into her daily routine.

1. The more fruits and vegetables the better

Aim for five to 10 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, says Dr. Desai.

Fruits and vegetables are a great source of folate, vitamin C and potassium. They are also a great source of fibre, which can help maintain a healthy gut and reduce the risk of bowel cancer.

2. A handful of nuts a day

Choose nuts that are low in sugar and salt, notes Dr. Desai.

3. A cup of beans a day

Beans are high in fiber and protein, folate, and antioxidants. Studies have shown they may benefit heart health, reduce the risk of cancer, and prevent fatty liver disease, says Dr. Desai.

4. Consume olive oil

Dr. Desai recommends incorporating healthy oils, like extra virgin olive oil, into your diet.

Olive oil is rich in healthy monounsaturated fats that have been shown to have powerful anti-inflammatory properties.

5. Avoid processed foods

Dr. Desai said: When you are hungry, instead of eating cookies, chips, cakes, muffins, eat whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, brown rice, oats... Processed foods are not good for your health because they often have added ingredients such as salt, sugar and fat, according to Express.
