According to Dr. Tong Hai, Head of the Department of Microsurgery and Reconstruction, Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, National Burn Hospital: Recently, the Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, National Burn Hospital, has recorded many cases of patients seeking treatment after experiencing complications from cosmetic procedures.

Patients fall into two main groups. The first group consists of cases where services are provided by unqualified or inexperienced doctors who do not screen for complications.

Group two includes procedures performed at spas and beauty salons, not clinics, by staff who are not doctors or medical professionals. This group often leaves behind long-term consequences that are difficult to remedy.

Dr. Hai said he was very concerned because some complications could leave long-term consequences for patients, affecting not only their health but also their psychology and quality of life.

Many patients arrive in a state of panic and anxiety after experiencing a stroke. Undergoing treatment is not only expensive but also psychologically damaging.

Explaining the reason for this situation, the expert suggested that many people lack sufficient knowledge about cosmetic procedures, thus increasing the risk of complications.

"They often rely on advertisements or opinions from friends, easily getting caught up in new cosmetic trends without carefully considering safety and effectiveness. Besides, many people have a mentality of seeking services at the cheapest price, leading them to choose establishments with low prices but not guaranteed quality. This can lead to serious consequences," said Dr. Hai.

Some people choose beauty salons that are substandard or unlicensed. These establishments may not guarantee safety and quality of service, posing a risk of HIV, hepatitis, and syphilis infections, as the staff are not medical professionals and therefore do not understand sterile procedures, leading to cross-contamination.

Furthermore, many people do not consult with a doctor or specialist before deciding to undergo cosmetic procedures. This lack of professional advice can lead to poor decisions.

To ensure safe cosmetic surgery, experts recommend that people seek out licensed cosmetic clinics and centers, specialized cosmetic hospitals, or general hospitals with cosmetic departments – places with highly qualified doctors and modern equipment.

People should also consult with a cosmetic surgeon for advice on the procedures, risks, and to help determine which method is best suited to their individual needs and health condition.

At the same time, learn about the main effects, unwanted side effects, risks, and potential complications of medications, chemicals, and implants introduced into the body. Pay attention to ingredients that may cause common allergic reactions, the manufacturer, and the expiration date.

"Those who desire cosmetic surgery, if they wish to undergo it, must be adults with full legal capacity and be responsible for their own decisions regarding cosmetic surgery," the doctor said.

People who should not undergo cosmetic surgery include those with chronic, incurable diseases such as heart failure, kidney failure, cirrhosis; blood disorders (acute or chronic myeloid leukemia), persistent anemia, poorly controlled diabetes, or clotting disorders (requiring continuous medication); and systemic diseases that are progressing. For example, people with lupus erythematosus or scleroderma may experience a severe flare-up of their condition after surgery.

Individuals with mental instability, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, or long-term substance dependence are also contraindicated.
