On September 15, specialist doctor Nguyen Thi Quynh Nga, Head of the Ophthalmology Department - Xuyen A Tay Ninh General Hospital, said that through examination, it was determined that Ms. K's right eye had a torn sclera - cornea, with intraocular tissue trapped in the tear.
"The patient needs emergency sutures to preserve the trapped intraocular tissue, minimize the risk of eye infection, and importantly, preserve vision. In particular, the patient also has a history of diabetes. Therefore, doctors are highly focused on developing a suitable treatment regimen for the patient," said Dr. Nga.
After 5 days of combined treatment between an ophthalmologist and an endocrinologist, Ms. K.'s eyes were stable and she was discharged from the hospital. Her vision was preserved at 70% compared to normal eyes.
Eye accident while riding electric bike
Doctor Nga said that recently the hospital has continuously received many cases of dangerous eye injuries in daily life and work that affect vision. Typically, V. (12 years old, living in Tay Ninh) while riding an electric bike unfortunately lost balance and hit his eye hard, causing pain and reduced vision.
V. checked his eyesight again after the accident.
Examination showed that V. had hyphema (intraocular bleeding) - a dangerous injury that often occurs after eye trauma. V. needed to be hospitalized to control the bleeding, inflammation, and pressure inside the eye.
After 3 days of treatment, V.'s condition has improved significantly. The pain symptoms have decreased, vision in the right eye has gradually recovered, his health is stable and he has been discharged from the hospital. Vision at the time of injury was 3/10 and when re-examined it was restored to 10/10.
Eye injuries at work
Not as lucky to recover his vision as the two cases above, Mr. H. (30 years old, living in Tay Ninh) suffered a very serious eye injury while working. The doctor gave him first aid, stopped the bleeding and examined him and determined that his eye was seriously injured due to strong impact on the eye. After the injury, his left eye could not perceive light, and the tear in the sclera and cornea was long. He needed emergency sutures to minimize the risk of infection. However, the eyeball was only preserved for aesthetics, the function of vision was almost gone.
According to Russian doctors, eye injuries, whether mild or severe, can cause serious damage to vision if not properly treated and promptly treated. After an injury, you should not attempt to treat the injury yourself, such as removing foreign objects, rubbing them away, or buying eye drops without the evaluation of an ophthalmologist.
"Eye injuries, especially those involving the eyeball, can cause late post-traumatic complications such as increased eye pressure, cataracts, uveitis, etc. Signs such as red eyes, pain, and blurred vision after a collision are considered warning signs. Therefore, when an eye injury occurs, quickly go to the nearest medical facility for examination to avoid dangerous complications later on," Dr. Nga advised.
