At a regular press conference on July 12, speaking to reporters about the situation in the East Sea, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said that with the joint efforts of China and ASEAN countries, the East Sea has generally stabilized.
"China will work with ASEAN countries to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea, contributing to the prosperity and development of the region," Spokesperson Lin Jian stressed. At the same time, China hopes other countries will respect these efforts.
In recent times, ASEAN and China have made efforts to promote consultations to fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and build a substantive and effective Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC).
Most recently, within the framework of the 21st Shangri-La Dialogue (June 2024 in Singapore), Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun affirmed his commitment to implementing the DOC Statement and accelerating consultations on the COC.
Mr. Dong Jun stressed the importance of promoting peace and development in the Asia-Pacific region through dialogue and consultation, rejecting any attempts to undermine regional stability.
The Chinese Defense Minister also said that it is necessary to build a more fair and equal international order and give full play to the regional security structure, affirming support for ASEAN's central role.
