Bac Giang: Selecting 27 individuals to propose conferring the titles of "People's Artisan" and "Meritorious Artisan"

BAC GIANG - The Council for the Award of the Titles "People's Artisan" and "Meritorious Artisan" in the field of intangible cultural heritage of Bac Giang province for the fourth time (referred to as the Provincial Council) has just selected 27 individuals to submit to the Central Council and the President for consideration of awarding the titles "People's Artisan" and "Meritorious Artisan".

Of which, 2 Meritorious Artisans are: Nguyen Van Them, residential group 3, Nham Bien ward, Bac Giang city; Lam Minh Sap, Cong village, Kien Lao commune, Chu town are proposed to be considered for the title of People's Artisan. The remaining individuals are proposed to be recognized as Meritorious Artisans.

The selected artisans work in the fields of folk performing arts (quan họ folk songs, San Dìu folk songs, Nùng folk songs, chèo, ca trù); social customs and beliefs (practicing the Vietnamese Mother Goddess worship, practicing Then rituals); folk knowledge (making dó paper). The localities with artisans selected by the provincial council this time are Chu town, Viet Yen town, Bac Giang city and the districts of Luc Ngan, Tan Yen, Luc Nam.

Previously, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (the standing agency of the Provincial Council) received 73 individual profiles, including 7 profiles for the title of “People's Artisan” and 66 profiles for the title of “Meritorious Artisan”. Of these, 71 were valid. The Provincial Council voted to select 27 outstanding individuals who met the requirements and proposed that the specialized council at a higher level consider submitting them to the President for the title of “People's Artisan” and “Meritorious Artisan” this year. The selected artisans all have more than 15 years of practical activities and actively and creatively teach intangible cultural heritage in the locality.

Up to now, Bac Giang province has 44 individuals who have been awarded or posthumously awarded the title of “Meritorious Artisan”; 5 artisans have been awarded the title of “People’s Artisan”. These are people with good moral qualities; exemplary in life; talented, dedicated to practicing and passing on intangible cultural heritage, contributing to making the heritage increasingly spread in the community.
